I really think that this article is way old. like these people have been sittin in a hole for a couple months and havnt herd of the recall. its old news and by now, everyone should have gotten it fixed unless they got it like that from the factory. i took my tc to the dealership and the guy looked up my VIN and told me i was already good from the factory. there shouldnt be anything to worry about

I could be wrong but I think the article is talking about the rest of the roof. Me personally, I would except the glass roof to shatter if something fell on it hard like a baseball, but not from normal driving. The articles do not state how the roofs shattered. Free darker tint would be nice.. so if somehting hits it, it will break but not shatter, then I would get darker tint for all my windows and tell the cops, I have to because my roof is this dark.. lol.. jk jk..

u kno what... u are right, they said they already knew about the wind deflector. that suck if the whole roof was like BOOM when on the interstate and glass is all like WOOSH everywhere... dont the new "tunerz" have no sunroof?!

I also don't understand what the big deal is, glass is glass, it shatters, it's not a mystery what makes glass shatter. If something hits it hard enough it will shatter, even the windshield will do the same thing if hit with enough force.

**Also, if you read your tC manual, it says not to have the sunroof open at speeds exceeding 45mph, which means you shouldn't have it open on the highway.
First, this IS a new issue. The recall you are referring to is for the wind deflector. This is for the glass roof sections.

Second, I'd love for you to show me in the manual where it says not to drive with the sunroof open at speeds above 45 mph.

From page 25 of the '06 manual:

"As driving with the moon roof opened fully will cause wind throbs, we recommend you to drive with the moon roof 50 mm (2.0 in.) from the fully opened position."

There is no mention of keeping it closed at any speed. 2.0 inches from the fully opened position is a lot different than keeping it closed while driving.

And lastly, while I do not think this is a reason for us to all go sell our tCs and freak out, I gurantee you that if you were driving down the road and your sunroof suddenly shattered, you'd consider it a "big deal."

Exactly.

And heres some members who had their roof shatter. This is not because of the wind deflector.

Same here. People are amazed that the whole roof is made of glass and has a sunroof and a moonroof. And at less than 20k too.

Even if they do recall the sunroof, all they'll end up doing is applying a film over it like the wind deflector. I highly doubt they'll actually replace anything at all, nevermind CF. Wishful thinking, I know. I'd be happy with a safety film, but I think they should give you some kind of option as to your compensation (I know they don't have to give you jack), meaning, rather than a free Jada tC, how about free tint on the rest of the glass? or even just a gift certificate to use towards whatever more expensive part you might want?

Default HEY-OOO

I got my recall thingy in the mail and every time I go to the dealership where I live I get the same answer." sorry we are full for today , try again some other time" I STILL havent gotten mine fixed. just like my driver side sun visor....I went to put it down and the plastic bracket inside the visor itself snapped... you gotta get there like 4 hours before they open to get a spot...

This is very simple people. There's two recalls: the wind deflector and the side airbags & knee airbags (not many btw). All you have to do is call 866-707- 2466 and press 3 on the main menu. After that you'll have to give some personal info. and the last 4 of you vin number. That should be enough for them to inform you if your car is involved on the recall or if you are good to go like me. The problems involve 2005 models and early 2006. Good Luck!

They don't have to take the whole thing out. I just had mine done. They just wash the roof, then put a clear film on it. I also had my state inspection done at the same time, and I was in and out of the dealership in 30 minutes.

The articles aren't old, they were posted yesterday. And from what most of the regional managers of our local dealers have said, there hasn't been an official "recall." Some of them still won't admit they even know what you are talking about.

That part amazes me, how can this be getting national press and Toyota Corp. not have release a memo to their dealerships?

WTF? my sunvisor broke too! And it's not like I abuse it or anything... How would you abuse one anyways? I baby my car like none other and one day i went to put it up and it fell back down and swung back and forth while i drove. How embarrasing! I finally got that fixed under warranty but it was a PITA! I went thru so much red tape just to get it put on! And not to get back on topic.... The exploding roof situation needs to be looked into, and all tC owners should be given options as to what course of action they would like taken on their car, like a safety film, or new normal roof or something of the sorts.... Maybe toyota should buy my tC back, with all the problems I've had. It's So annoying.!

I spoke to Scion Customer Care about this yesterday, They said Toyota has no buy-back program, but I can go through a third party arbitrator to decide what course of action, if any, Toyota must make as far as buying back my car at a fair price or replacing the tC. Toyota would be, by law, obligated to abide by the arbitrator's decision, but I would be able to decide whether or not to accept the decision or be free to deny it and pursue legal action (I wouldn't go that far, though).

Anyway, I'm not saying this is the route I'm going to take, and I'm still not even sure I'm getting rid of the tC, but I told the Scion rep to mail me the necessary forms and information to get the ball rolling should I wish to file a grievance.
