It's even worse. Toyota corporate doesn't even tell the people within corporate. I called Scion Customer Care on Tuesday night after reading the article, and the rep says , "I haven't heard of that yet". I asked if she was located at corporate headquarters and she says "yes". So she says she will have a "tC SPECIALIST" call me back on Wednesday. So, I email the nhtsa.gov link to the "specialist", who calls me back on WEdnesday and says "Honestly, the link you sent me is the first I've seen of that. I had no idea." When I pressed on about how a "tC Specialist" located within corporate can not know about this, he says "They don't tell us anything, and they probably didn't tell the dealers."

I wouldn't mind having 3 CF panels to exchange for the glass panels. That way I can have a CF roof and still use my sunroof!!

I hafto admit, a cf hood, 3 cf roof panels, and a cf hatch would look sick on SW! panda to the extreme!

Don't blame me (the thread starter) I just copied the title from the original story on the website. Besides, I'm an xB owner, what do I know about tC's.

P.S. I'm glad I was able to let you guys know about this. I was surprised when I read about it and checked the forums to see if any of you tC owners were talking about it and didn't see any threads.

Would people just STOP about the cf roof???!!!

NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

I know this has been said but I feel the need to repeat it...

The recall is for the WIND DEFLECTOR ONLY. Why that is, I have no idea but I really don't think it would have hurt Scion to have the roof laminated in production. You would THINK they would have had safety in mind when they designed the glass roof, but I guess they overlooked shattering glass as a possible safety issue.

I'm pretty sure (hoping) that after this government investigation, Scion will issue a recall for the ENTIRE roof. We'll just have to wait and see.

I don't know why people are making it so complicated. Yes, there was an actual recall for the wind deflector. It could break if something hit it. We are not talking about the wind deflector!

Now there is a new issue of the actual sunroofs exploding for no reason (ie. nothing even has to touch it). No, there is no recall on it yet. The NHTSA is investigating it now. This is what the articles and this thread are talking about (if people would read them before they post).

Are we all clear boys and girls?

if you got it a month ago, your recall has already been fixed. you can also tell if you look closely at the underside of the deflector, you can see the edge of the film.

Perhaps there will be a lifetime (replacement) warranty for the glass? I think a film will be the most likely solution if something is wrong with it.

mine looks black. got mine new and it was already done. it's a pretty safe bet that if someone traded it back in, the dealership would have checked it before reselling it.

I was just thinking, if the glass roof collapsed on a car past its warranty, the driver has to pay for the replacement huh?

most likely. Most dealers want touch your car once the warranty is up without some fat cash.

If there is a recall issued for a car, the dealer must fix the problem specified in the recall without charge, regardless of warranty status.
