when your car is selected to be included in the recall you will know, they will send a letter to the registered owner. do you think everyone with the wind deflector recall called scion and asked them if they needed it.. NO.. Toyota sent them a letter telling them they needed it.
And just a quick question.. what would be the fix to this problem?? if they were to put a film on the underside of the roof that would mean they would have to take the roof apart and then put it back on.. and i for one do not trust any dealer mechanic with that big of a duty..
damn.. the kaminari roof is looking mroe and more appealing now huh?
and to those who keep talking about the carbon fiber roof.. keep dreaming, this is toyota, the most you will get is either a fiberglass or sheet metal roof replacement, not carbon fiber.. sheesh what do you think your driving, an M6??

i think if i had to give up my sun/moonroof i'd just get another car. part of the reason i bought this one was for the sun/moonroof as it was standard to the car and i'll be damned if i gotta find some other car that i gotta pay extra to get a sunroof
Here are two more stories on the subject.

The glass roof is the most identifiable and main selling point of the car, I doubt they would just get rid of it.
A few folks posted here about six months ago -- their roof exploded, not just the deflector. It was determined that they were probably popping because of frame/body flex putting tension on the glass. There wouldn't be any real way of fixing that except to start welding/bolting a bunch of steel to the unibody to strengthen it.
The glass is tempered, so it is less likely to cut you if it should pop, although I could see the sudden distraction causing someone to lose control and I wouldn't want a piece of even tempered glass to hit me in the eyeball. I would also guess that any recall would just force them to put a piece of clear plastic overlay on the underside of all the glass. Personally, I don't care, as I'm planning to have my roof tinted eventually to cut down on heat during the summer.

can someone make a replacement deflector made of something like polyurethane??!?!?!
im sure it would be a gold mine just from people on this site...
i thought about doing it after mine shattered on my head on the highway... but i just dont have the patience for custom fabrication... so i just wrapped it in vinyl
