Default Headlight socket burnt out

I own a 2005 tC and recently I thought one of my headlights burnt out.

I was removing the bulb from the socket and noticed that it slid off real easily. Turns out parts of the socket were burnt to a crisp and I should probably replace the socket.

Is there any particular reason this is happening or it "just happens"? Also, any advice on what type of sockets I should use to replace them with? I assume it's just a simple wire strip and splice to replace the socket right?

FYI, I was using the luminics bulbs advertised on here years ago and then switched back to the OEM bulbs.

I had the same problem years ago..just get some 9006 pig tails from the parts store and rewire it..crimp it or solder it. Those luminics (fake h.I.d.s) bulbs are the problem, those bulbs use more voltage than factory bulbs burning up the factory wires and connectors. Factory bulbs run like 12 v and those luminics run like 12v + like around 40v

Thanks for the response.

Would this be a suitable replacement?
