This is a trick question. Some people (like me) will tell you it's super easy. Others will tell you that it's a major PITA to do this.

1. Just use a screwdriver wrapped in cloth and pop out the 2 plastic pieces on the hatch.
2. Reach in and twist away on the bulbs. (I can't remember which way you turn them.)
3. Pop out OEM bulb.
4. Replace with LED or bulb of your liking.
5. Put back together in reverse order.

PURDY!!!

Good luck!

Yeah, I didn't want some bright white light so I ordered some LEDs from jlevistreetwerks.com. Only $10 a pair so I also ordered some amber ones for the side markers. (Bulbs are the same size.) I like the looks of these LEDs a lot. They have a soft bluish-white look to them. People have complimented me on my LEDs/Red TYCs look saying it looks Lexus-ish. Can't complain about that!

Thanks for the compliment! Yes, those are the regular TYCs. About a year and a half ago, I wanted some new tails. (Because Scion is all about personalization, right?) At that time, NO COMPANY had produced a decent tail set up that I liked. So I bought the TYCs and used Vans Lens Paint on them. They actually came out better than I thought. Here's a recent day pic...

If you're interested in doing this, all you really have to know is how to spray paint. (Or know somebody who knows how to spray paint.) Probably the hardest part of this process is the wet sanding because you need 2 people to do it. (Well, you could do it solo, but 2 peeps make it a hell of a lot easier!) Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

So here is my question...are these the plastic panels on the inside of the hatch or the plastic shields/covers for the lights just above the lic plate?

Thanks!

plastic pannels on the INSIDE of the hatch. thats all u need. youll see the lights right there.. there easy to undo but the twisting part is quite hard.. may need plyers or something to loosen it the first time.
