I'm a small filipino guy (5'6" 155). I don't have strength. I don't know what it's like to be shot at by gamma rays and develop the strength necessary to break a hatch garnish.

PLEASE TELL ME HOW I CAN ACHIEVE THIS FEAT!

WHY IS THIS BEING BROKEN!?

 

I have never lifted from the bottom edge. I just simply lift normally instead of yanking up on it before it even has a chance to unlatch From -20F to 100F after 5.5 years of owning it and I have never even hinted at breaking this.

Also, beware that on some forums (pretty sure here as well) there is someone that is creating new screen names and posting about the garnish breaking over and over (As their only post) just to build up a "case" against Scion for this. So the number of actual occurrences is less than what you hear on the forums

But, I have known plenty of people that break door handles on various cars too because they sit and yank on it like a gorilla before the locks are even unlocked, so it doesnt surprise me.

(Or like my ol' Master Sargent in the USAF - huge massive guy with a fuse about this "." long. Saw him rip the door handle right off the door of his year old '67 Barracuda one day when he was angry and thought it was unlocked...)

 

my buddy hulk smashed my CF garnish by accident. He fixed it with some epoxy and it's better than ever now.

 

it's funny that some people don't even know how to open the hatch! they'd be pressing on the latch, released it and then try pulling it up! good thing nobody has ever broken the garnish! OMG! i'd be ____ed!

there was once i was in US border (to canada) and this TSA guy was "hey, how do you open the hatch?" i laughed my ___ off.. some ppl are just ignorant, it's not that hard!
