i have to say, no matter how nicely done the car [tc] is, imo when i see a front license plate it totally ruins it.

i almost feel like, if you have a front license plate, don't even bother doing any exterior/cosmetic mods to your car.

Well, here in MD, they require a front tag and it's a $60 fine for each time they pull you over. I haven't been pulled for it myself, but I know quite a few who have. I personally refuse to put the tag on until I'm forced, but I still have the holes from the dealer

But I have seen an alternate solution...although I think it's tacky....I have seen a couple of people who strapped their front tag to the passenger's side visor and just drive with the visor down so that the tag is visible and when they park they put the visor back up....it's an interesting idea to say the least, but it still is tacky. I'll stick with my story:

"See officer...I have my front tag right here...but someone in my neighborhood played a prank on me and stole the screws that hold it in. I came out to my car and my tag was sitting on the ground. They did this earlier today and I haven't had the chance to get replacement screws yet. I was on my way to Wal-Mart/Lowe's/Home Depot/Local Hardware store to get them now."

I received my plates in January and I still haven't put them on. I don't want to drill the bumper. Its clean and virgin, so I want to find a bracket of some kind. AHHH!!!

Mount it to your lower grille! I know we'd all rather not have one at all, but at least it's better than destroying your bumper!

1. Get some 1/4" carriage bolts (3" long or so), 4 nuts, 2 wing nuts and 4 washers.
2. Put the carriage bolts through the top holes of the license plate and secure them with 2 nuts.
3. Add two more nuts and two washers an inch or two further down the bolt, and put the bolts through your lower grille.
4. Reach down from the top and add the other two washers and two wing nuts behind the grille to hold everything in place.

You might need to play with it for a minute to get the sides even. Also, I added a couple of self-adhesive rubber pads on the lower back side of the plate so it can rest safely against the bottom edge of the opening.

I'll try to get a pic of mine.

i live in NY, and when i had the bumper replaced i made sure that the body shop didnt re-drill the holes for the plate...so i went to pep boys, and got a bracket for the plate, and some zip ties..but i didnt install...i left the plate in the front window, and even though the car was parked on the street i got a ticket..they said no plate displayed or improperly mounted..$65 ticket..and i got 3 of them..and then i said F#@k it..and got my car registered by my mothers in Va..No Plate..and some Ushki Plates...Yah

I have my plate on and it honestly doesn't bother me. Where I'm at, its hard for them to enforce it (it just means if I get pulled over for something else, just adds to the ticket), since KY doesn't require front plates (and I can't remember if IN is the same, someone correct me if I'm wrong though), so if they see me from the front, they don't know which state its registered in, and if they see from the back, they don't know whether the front plate is even on.

But as I said, it doesn't bother me. Even after growing up in FL, still think it looks normal for a car to have front plates.

dumb question... do you just yank out the screws that the dealer drills into your bumper or is there a more specific method to remove them?

I had mine off for awhile, but it wasn't cause I wanted it off. Some dude backed up into it.

I do want a new front bumper though, cause it looked good off, but now I can't take it off because of the screws.

Ushki, how does your license plate fit in the opening to be able to zip tie it? A license plate is too tall to fit against the lower grille.

I did something like Yanki, except mine hangs down instead and it doesn't have the big metal plate behind it. Simpler and sturdier, IMHO.

This is the only picture I could find, until I get a better close-up shot. Note that since this picture, I adjusted the bolts to hold the plate in more at the top so you can't see them anymore.

i too hate the way the front plate looks..
ive had my car since may of 06 and didnt have a front plate until this week.
ive been pulled over once and he gave me a warning back in december.
i just hate the feeling of always being worried when i drive near cops.
i bought the bracket from 808customs. looks ok imo
