Default Install question: grill w/ fogs

Anyone wire up one of the lower grills that comes with the fogs in it? I just got mine and of course there aren't any directions. Don't get me wrong, I can see how all the wires connect to each other though I have not unwound them and laid them out as if doing a normal wiring harnass if you will. With that said, I have a couple of questions:

1. Each fog has a snap connector on the wiring behind it. There is a long black wire that appears to connect the two fogs together (snap link on two different leads). Then there is a yellow wire with a different wire end and a red wire zip tied by itself. I am curious if the red one is an extension for the yellow to some form of power?

2. There is a snap link that is labeled "ignition". But where does it plug in?

3. is there an existing hole in the firewall to pass the wire through or do I need to drill one?

4. Is there a trick to popping out the stock switch covers on the dash so I can pop the switch in?

5. There are two black wires that appear to be grounds as they have end pieces that would allow a screw to go thru them.

This should help you out http://www.trdsparks.com/install/PT413-21050inst.pdf
It's the actual installation instructions.

Thanks so much!!!

Unfortunately, now that I have taken and laid out the harnass and looked at the connection points on the car, it appears as if some of the connectors don't match up.

Here is what I can see with the harnass laid out on the floor (using fig. 4-8 as an example, page 6):

1. The ground wire is actually located off of the right fog light connection. According to my understanding of the directions, the ground wire should be on the left fog light.

2. There is a second wire in addition to the ground wire coming off the right hand light connector that appears to be yellow with a simple tubular looking plug in connection. What does that plug into????

3. The end of the wire that would be up close to the fuse box has a black cap on it with a mounting hole so that it can be bolted on to something. There is also a second red wire w/ a fuse attached to it. The other end of this wire has a connection at the end of it similar to the ground wire at the opposite end (noted above). It appears as if you are to connect it to the battery or something????

4. The switch and connection wire fit together fine but the other end that would plug into the fuse box under the dash has 3 connections at the end.

a. one connector appears to be what is described in the directions as a 1 prong plug. The issue here is that the matching connection in the fuse box already has a blue wire plugged into it. Other than that there is no open connector on the fuse board.
b. The white wire connector under the dash as noted in the structions is a 7 pin connector but the wire harnass that came with the kit doesn't have a 7 pin connector at all!
c. On this same wire that has the single prong, there is also a yellow wire with a female tubular connector on it (the opposite of what is on the main wire harnass coming off the right light connector)
d. Lastly there is an extra red cable that has a male tubular connector on one end and a female on the other. This appears to be at patch cable to go between the swtich harnass and the light harnass.

So with all of that said and typed out, I am thinking that this system is designed to be somewhat of a stand alone set up. It appears that instead of connecting under the dash to the 7 prong that the cable is supposed to go directly to the connection under/behind the headlight. The only issue here is that the switch cable is only about 3' long which means it isn't long enough to reach from the dash, thru the firewall down along the fender line to the connector behind the headlight.

So while I think I have figured out how they intended it all to be routed/connected, it now appears that one of the cables is too short. I have sent a message to the seller requesting instructions and explained the connector issues as above and that if they didn't have instructions that I would be making a return because it simply doesn't install the way the stock one does and the cables just aren't making much sense at the moment.

Trust me when I say I have laid it all out. I mean, I set the grill on the floor and plugged in all the connectors to create a functional pattern of how it appears to require being set up but as mentioned, the one switch cable just isn't long enough. I am hoping that I am simply missing something simple but after searching all over the car for a particular connector, I'm just not seeing it. I can say that the TRDsparks directions (link posted above) make sense but the wires in the kit simply don't match up the same.

I watched a couple of videos on youtube and while both were for installing the lights into the brake ducts rather than the grill version, the wiring harnasses shown are the same as what I have.

It appears that they are designed to be a stand alone set up rather than the OEM set up. At no point do they tie into the cars, wiring harnass or fuse box. Apparently I have to run the red extension wire from the switch to the yellow one that is on the light harnass (there are two separate little harnasses).

That being said, I will try to work on this over the next few days as time permits. I will simply tie the power to the battery and ground wire to the frame and connect the switch to test the system. If the lights turn on and off, then I will go ahead and actually route all the wires as directed and mount the grill in the car. I figure this is probably the best way to test the whole system prior to installing it. That way if something doesn't work I can still return it as new since it was never installed.

I am thinking that the brown single prong connection on the end of the switch cable along with the yellow power wire and ground wire are simply alternative connectors. Meaning they don't all connect but instead give you an option of how to wire it up. Since there isn't a vacant/available single prong connector in the fuse box or a 7 prong on the switch cable then I have to use the yellow power wire and ground wire instead.

I will keep you all posted.

Ok after watching the videos I realized that the wiring they were using for their set up was pretty much the same as mine. So, I went out to the car at lunch and wired up the car. Yes, I know I said I was going to test it all but today is going really slow here at work, I had all the wiring, but not the actual grill/lights.

At this point it is all wired up and all I have to do is swap out the grills and plug in the lights and connect the power wire to the battery. The down side to this whole set up is that it is independent of the cars ignition system. That means that when you turn the lights on they are pulling power directly from the battery. When you turn the car off, they will still be on and pulling power from the car battery. Not cool if you forget to turn them off! I suspect there is probably a way that I could tie them into the ignition but would need to find the correct wire to do that with. Something I am really not that interested in dealing with. It was supposed to be a simple snap together install. Instead I spent the past hour routing wires, hiding wires, zip tieing wires, running it thru the firewall... Hopefully the damn things turn on the lights when I connect them! If not, I will simply have to pull all the wiring, pack it up and send it back. Fortunately, nothing needed to be cut or crimped so it would go much quicker pulling it out than routing it in the first time. Not that I want to do that mind you.

There is a DIY on here in the tech section that will show you how to wire to fogs to come on with your headlights. With all that work downtime, i'm sure you would've taken a peak in the DIY section by now........... lol
