Default Just did 9006 to 9005 headlight retrofit mod (pix)

As many of you know you can do a simple mod to fit a 9005 high beam bulb (1700 lumens) to fit in our regular 9006 (1000 lumens) sockets (HID's are 3200 lumens). The mod was very easy to do and only cost around 20$ (I used 2 9005 slyavania cool blues). The beam pattern is the same hieght just 70% more powerful now. Here are some pix.

9005 cool blue on the left, stock 9006 blub on right

Stock 9006

9005 slyavnia cool blue

Beam shot, not the best i know but you can see the 9005 bulb on the right does go farther and is slightly brighter, looks better in person

Here is a good writeup... works the same for our cars

I know nothing about lighting, so bear with me....

So basically your "low beams" will be just as bright as your high beams, right? So isn't that like driving around with your high beams all the time? Isn't that inconsiderate to other drivers? And what about your "high beams?" Their not high anymore! Their just like your "low beams." Is that right?

^^There is a link provided within the link for adjusting the modified 9K5 bulbs after install. I hope he did that because I wouldn't want to see him coming my way and being blinded!

in the tC the high and low uses different reflectors. so the highs have a focal point so it aims more straight and the lows are aimed lower. so using a "high" bulb in a "lowbeam" housing will yeild a brighter low beam

yea no problem using the high beam bulb, all you are going to do is get a high beam brightness low beam, NOT the high beam blinding effect

you can see the light beam in the picture does not go any higher (up the trees) than the stock bulb also

Putting in the Cool Blue bulb you kinda defeated the purpose of trying to make your lighting brighter. The blue tint on the bulb filters out some light, making it dimmer. You would have been better off just switching to a Toyota OEM 9005 Bulb.

Ive been running 9005s in my lows and fogs for about 10 months now and its great. I dont get flashed by other drivers and visibiltiy is amazing. Im pretty sure the eyelids are keeping the glare in control because I have done zero in the way of adjusting the beams..I was ready to but based on my results I saw no need.

actually the 9005 high beams are 65 watts, theres no problems as the jump isnt big enough to harm the harnesses

Hmm so no one has had a problem with this yet ? Reason I ask is becuase i just read all those Luminecs stories of peoples harnesses being fried by only a 5watt jump from the bulbs, this is like a 14watt jump with the high beam bulbs
