Just did 9006 to 9005 headlight retrofit mod (pix)
i took out one of the parking light bulbs to compare but it's still the same color. i took pictures but it didn't turn out right. with flash, it turn the light yellow and without flash, it came out blue. so those pics are worthless. it's fine the way it is. it's white/yellow (just a little). as long as it's bright, i'm happy.

i also noticed that the base of my parking light (the black plastic thing that the bulb sits on) is burnt. probably from the high beam being in the low beam. got too hot.
Well, I was disappointed with my little experiment. The Cool Blues that I bought from WalMart turned out to be yellow. Sylvania should rename it to Cool Yellow.
I agree that it is better than stock, but yellow isn't my taste.
When I first put the hi beams on with cool blues inside the hi beam housing (for me to be able to return it if anything goes wrong), it is really yellow, but after 2-3 mins, the color becomes light yellow. A little white and more yellow. So I just returned it and will never recommend it if you are looking for a white light. Maybe just go for silverstars or ultras.
I might just buy some luminics or nokya to experiment with.

don't get luminics. the light is dull as a ****. absolutely no brightness whatsoever. however, if you want color, then they got some good colors though. titanium white will definitely give you white light. pure blue is blue, and they also have purple. but remember, the higher the K temp, the less intense the light is. even the high beam won't compare to silverstars.
I was just out for a night drive after having done the retrofix for 9005 ultras in the lows. It is really rainy and dark out tonight and the lights just lit up the road for me. It was the kind of night that I would have used my brights, but I didn't even need em! These things are super bright and nice and white. I just hope i'm not burning the parking light harness like 7thgear said
Alright. I won't go with Luminics anymore. I probably get me some Ultras. But seriously, Sylvania needs to rename Cool Blues to Cool Yellows.
Nice to hear this mod helped you find your way home Spect2K3.

Did this yesterday when I did my GFI intake. I work at a BMW dealer and E36 high beam bulbs are the same so I got them for a good price. They are Silvania bulbs I'm pretty sure they are the same exact bulb the tC uses for the high beam (OEM). Didn't notice a huge change last night, but thats because it was raining, however on this mornings commute I noticed what a difference it did make even when I passed cars with bluer HID's I liked the whiter light these have. I used to have 9006 silverstars then I blew one out and thats why I did the conversion.

I got a PM from someone who will remain nameless asking about how to remove the parking lights, so I will write it up here briefly (b/c thats all there is):
NO, you can't just pull straight out. You have to turn it loose the same way you would remove a headlight. If I remember correctly, when looking down at it, the top turns to the right on both of them. Then gently pull it out and NO the whole black harness doesn't come out. You have to pull from the bulb itself GENTLY. It comes out nice and easy and there are guides inside for slipping the new parking light in. Then put it back in and turn it back the other way to lock it back in place and test it out. Very simple, but sure, it is a bit of a tight spot. I recommend taking out the low beams to gain better access. Scale of 1-10 of difficulty = -3873
This is for all of those in the special class. lol

I think some people are just afraid to do the things they haven't done before, like me.
But once they know that someone has done it before, they get the courage to try it out themselves and would realize it wasn't hard at all. :D

Parking lights are easy in theory... but a PITA in practice.
All you do is reach in, rotate the harness clockwise, and pull the whole thing out of the headlight casing. Then you just gently grab the bulb and pull it straight out of the harness. Nice thing is 168/192 bulbs aren't polarized, so you don't have to worry about the right way to stick the new one in.
I have to say it took me forever to get the passenger side bulb out due to the washer fluid tube being in the way, though, and my fingers were sore for hours after haha!
I have bright blue LEDs for parking lights, and it doesn't change the color of my headlights much. A little whiter, but you really can't notice too much. Looks hella cool if I leave just the parking lights on though!!

I will try this mod tomorrow but there is no pepboys or walmart within 20miles from my home. So I will try kragen and autozone to see if they give me a discount or something on silverstar ultras.
