Default Making lower vent grills

Does everyone hate those lower vent grills that are blocked and dont really have a purpose? Let’s make some cheap mini grills.

Take some metal mesh easily found at Home Depot

Take the stock plastic piece

Mold the mesh to it, trim excess off the top and bottom with a wire cutter, and leave the sides long

5 coats of black automotive paint and 10 coats of clear coat

Take off bumper

Place grill in and fold the sides around the back to secure

I had to place the intake tube to behind the right grill

As so…

Put back the bumper, and you’re done.

^ x2. i wonder if running a line straight to the vents will actually make the intake perform better or does it get more air if its free...

Thanks ucsdtc and Dakine. Guess I just like to know that cooler air is entering the intake box. When the engine is running and I put my hand on the vent I can feel it sucking in air.

Customtuners, I really don’t hear a difference, maybe because I have an axelback already, but that weird intake swirly sound when you accelerate seems louder.

And why relocate? Because I can make some bumperplugs! Lol.

It's funny how you crouch just to get a nice shot.

Big props! It looks really nice! Just worried to suck water in...

And besides, does this make any difference from the OEM side vent grilles? Have you felt a difference in performance yet?

pretty creative solution. today i installed my injen cai and took a drill to the "faux grill" on the lower left and drilled out some holes in the middle of the diamonds. i figured that its gotta to be better to have some air being able to flow through than having it completely blocked off.

The hose feed down to the vent deff improves your performance a few HP. I had that on my Audi TT with the hose connecting down through the vents. Looks good by the way.

Thanks guys, well I had that self made intake in for a year and didn’t have any problems with water going in even through big storms. The vent was opened up too btw, but I’d just wanted to make grills since it looked weird with one side closed and one side open with a hose opening in it. You might have to vacuum your intake box once in a while for sand and stuff but nothing gets through my K&N drop in and the white filter on top of that.
