Mods from the factory vs buying separate
Looking at buying a tC in the next few months and I was contemplating the mods you can get. Things appeal to me like the trd springs, floor mats, CAI, exhaust, and most importantly, the security system.
I saw you can purchase these from mcgeorgeparts.com for much less than msrp.
My question is, as for the security option, what does that all include. Is there no Security without the upgrade, and is it an easy install? would it be covered by warranty or whatever if I have it installed by a friend?
Thanks

Don't get the Scion Security, get something better, like a Viper alarm, and get it installed by professionals.
Everything else, it's cheaper to buy it from a 3rd party site like mcgeorge or trdsparks

^ I agree fully...
The Scion Security is far inferior to the Viper or Python lines from DEI... everything else can be installed yourself, or with a friend, for much, much cheaper

yeah i agree with them i would just buy the car stock and then add everything after and do it your self. makes you more proud of your car knowing you did all the work yourself. the only thing i had them add to my car was the exhuast because i wanted it included in my monthly payment it was only like an extra 3$ a month
Depends.
Do you have the time/skills/tools?
For me, I got a lot of them installed - I don't want to spend a lot of time these days on such things.
But if you have the above - get them later and install.

^^^ When I was younger, had no family, no house, and just me and my job, I did all my own wrenching on my bikes/cars.
Now, I want to spend time on what are now more important things.
Still love all this stuff, just don't have the time.

^^^ Getting up early to ride and going into the mountains on my moto gives me that thrill.
I do love to tinker with the cars - but mostly just detailing and maintenance - not the big stuff any more.
I love dropping my car off and picking it up with something new installed and I'm still clean

I would be concerned about the warrenty. If you have any of the accessories installed at the ponit of purchase they will be covered for 3 years or 36k miles. Many of the options this warrenty will not impact. I.E. floor mats, arm rest, etc. Anything that is non-mechanical. But any of the parts that are electronic or mechanical that warrenty is worth spending a few extra buck, especially since the price should include instalation, with exception to TRD or performance parts.............. Just my opinion though, and that doens't count for much
The one main advantage to buying at time of purchase, is financing. Unless you have the cash laying around to put into the car, you may never be able to Mod the car. If you get it at point of sale then its just rolled into the price.

Or, you could take the 1500 dollars you save by shopping online and doing the work yourself and put it into a savings account.... (Your own warranty service)
LoL.... I did the math some time ago... I think I was somewhere in the ballpark of 2 grand saved by doing everything myself...
But I've done a lot, and pretty much kissed the warranty goodbye in the process....

Most of the mods I have done I purchased at http://trdsparks.com. They have treated me EXTREMELY well and have gotten me somethings that aren't listed on their website. Plus, it feels good when you finish a mod that you've done yourself! (Gives me an excuse to go smoke a cigar afterwards!
) With all $$$ trdsparks has saved me over the dealer prices, I'm that much closer to my NEW exhaust and Spring install!
The only thing I'd be uncomfortable doing myself would be the alarm system. wanted to do ground effects/springs/exhuast/intake/header/supercharger (later)....What all do you reccomend I do as far as myself...I test drove the tC with the exhaust and intake, and it didn't have the 'prowl' my Honda did. I'm looking for more of a deep throaty sound (uhhhhhh
) so I will probably going aftermarket anywho...But listening to that one guys story who had trouble with the shavings in his block....makes me kinda wary of Scion Dealers. and all he had was I/H/E.
doing everything yourself will save you a poop load of money. it sure as hell saved me a bunch. the only thing i won't be doing myself is the mid pipe. gonna get that made a muffler shop
