Are you going to be using it as a street car too?

I think the best bet (cost wise, and the most logical sense) would be to get a fiberglass or carbon fiber roof to replace the glass.

Its not going to gain you much. The full glass roof plus mechanism only weighs about 70 lbs, so just getting rid of the moving parts in place of fixed glass most likely wont help a lot. You would really want to go with a carbon fiber roof replacement to make a big difference in that area.

From what I know it looks pretty unfinished on the inside. I think they developed it for Raamaudio (rick) way back. More of a track car item than anything else.

obivously it'll look unfinished because you can't put the headliner back on unless you get it glued on.

I was looking into replacing the front and rear panels of the sunroof w/ a c/f panel... but after looking at it looks like you have to remove the roof to separate the panels...

The deflector and main moonroof come off separately with no issue. I have taken the moonroof (slidiing portion) off of my car before. 4 Screws hold it into the mechanism. Not sure about the rear panel.

The deflector basicaly has pins holding it in.

I never took it completely off, just halfway to grease the pins on the deflector arms (which, by the way, is the source of many of the rattles and creaks people hear.. some thick grease will most likely fix 90% of that). The two deflector arms are attached with pins that have c-clips on them. You simply pop the clips off and pull the pins out to release the top of it. I am pretty sure you can take the lower hinge off fairly easily as well, but I havent look as closely at that.

For the front moonroof panel, look on the inside of the tracks from inside the car and you will see the 4 Torx screws that hold it on.

Just dont drop them when you take em out :D

And happy bday by the way.

Six T25 screws and the deflector comes off. I've had mine off several times for cleaning (and once to wrap in vinyl). Engi is right on about the noises-- I glooped all of the pivot points with silicone grease, and it's quiet as can be,open or closed, at any speed.

The glass weighs nothing-- if the deflector is 2lbs, I'd be amazed.

I think I read @ that one-off CF roof that was mentioned was only good for losing 12 lbs or so.

I'm wondering why the Kaminari roof is rated off-road only.

Ha, the ultimate 'panda'- CF hood, roof, & hatch!

The weight isnt where I see the most problems. The problem I see is if you make the upper part of the body too stiff, you will break the glass. If you have a CF roof you can make the body stiffer and it wouldn't be prone to breaking like the glass would.

I would only do this if I was going to be racing and needed to really stiffen up the ride. Other than that its pretty pointless and it reduces visibility!
