Default Need input on a new CF part design - feeler *update PG 3

A member by the name of RogueSe7ens (Jim) is making a new product for the xD which is a scoop that mounts in the cowl... I am intrigued by the idea, but realize the design won't flow well on the tc

(here is another link, he is a merchant on the Fit forums, selling these)
http://www.fitfreak.net/forums/gauge...terest-20.html
(Scionlife xD forum link)
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=260432

The design for the one for the tc will go on the drivers side of the cowl, where it is mainly flat and kind of tear-drop shaped, and be maybe 3-4 inches high, depending on how it looks.

Heres an old picture of my car, to show where the scoop will go. It will be taking the place of the faded piece of my cowl under the wiper arm, d-side. Same shape

This is just a feeler to see if anyone likes it, what it should look like, etc. Jim will be chiming in here when he gets a chance.

Opinions?

I'm not 100% sure on price yet, that will be up to him, but the xD/FIT ones are $95 for finished CF or CK (Kevlar, for colored weaves) and $75 for black painted or primed CF

My cowl is faded too, i'll end up painting it satin black before installing my scoop (cause i AM getting one, this is just to see if more people will like them than me, lol

Aciddrop, if you hate the big obnoxious scoops like me, wait till this thing is done. It's going to be clean & tasteful.

nrgwar, the final phases will be tested on an actual vehicle of course to ensure perfect fitment

This would be kinda cool since it would feed air directly into my intake (or not...LOL). However, with increased air flow, more things like dirt/dust and other junk might get sucked in. If made, could there be an optional screen?

RoJa, I am sure putting a little "pre-filter" onto the mesh screen it comes with won't be too hard

This is right up alot of the more DIY'ers alley, since because it takes a bit of skill to install this it will be a little more rare. :D

You can post these up in the rare mods topic, till a few dozen are sold anyway lol

I'd like to see more pictures then. Specifically on how they're attached to the cowling.

We havent quite worked out how to attach them, an idea is cutting out that area of cowl (of course) and making two slides so that the piece slides into them and can be riveted/bolted on. For a more theft-proof metod.

Another idea (my favorite) would be to create the piece and making an inner lip to put 3m on (like this |_ _| ) _ being the inner lip. And if someone isnt a DIYer they can just stick it on without cutting the cowl. :\

Rosedale, I am on my netbook now which doesnt have any photo editing stuff on it so no chops right now, i will try to make something in the afternoon. Just think of that section of cowl, raised up 3ish inches, and it being a scoop. lol Similar design to the FIT/xD ones only wider and shorter, and following that section of cowl.

isnt there a metal wall that separates the engine bay from the windshield wiper motors compartment? i think this scoop would feed air to that wiper motor compartment, not the intake.

i'd be concerned someone will jack it right after jacking my S2000 antenna LOL.

Pfffft, with my luck (2 ebay antennas, and on my second S2K) they'd probably steal quite more than just a CF cowl and antenna

hkspeed i was just thinking that, there might just be a sheetmetal wall that is directly under the cowl. Easily hacked out though, i'll just dremel that out while im dremeling the cowl, lol.

Heres a better pic to try to visualize where its going to go/what itll look like

Oh yeah, huh... I didn't even think about that. Goes to show you how many times I took off my cowling.
