Using the HIRs would be exactly like using 9005s in your low beams. The modifications required to make 'em fit are the same as making the high beam bulbs fit.

Modifying the HIR base to fit in the low beam socket is the same sort of deal.

I did the 9005 conversion when I first got the car, so no problems there. Is it a substantial improvement?

Also, if you go to his site, click on "products", go to the bottom of the page and click on "knowledge", there are several great write-ups talking about all of the different bulbs available providing pros/cons.
