Question on high beams
I tried searching on this. When I was driving a BMW with 4 round headlights. Guys were running low beams in the high so they could have all 4 on at the same time. I know that there is a reflector in our high beams that direct the light differntly than the lows. My question is there a lower wattage bulb that others are using so i can run the high on all the time?
People easily modify 9005 bulbs to work in 9006 sockets so going the other way probably works. I'm not sure how secure the bulb would be without the tabs on the base though. Maybe an extra rubber O ring would help stabilize it.
the low beam has a shrod around it to obscure the low beam bulb so it doesn't blind oncoming traffic. also, the tips of the bulb are covered too to prevent light from coming out there too.
the high beam however, has nothing, it is a purely naked bulb with nothing to obstruct its output since it is meant for maximum visibility.
now, some cars have DRL systems, where the high beam is always on, but it is like a dimmer, so the bulb isn't very bright, it just lights up alittle, and then when you flip the high beam, it goes to full power.
you could do something like that, change the high beam to from on/off to on/dim if you know howto. but seriously, i wouldn't put a low wattage bulb in the high beam. it would have to be so dim that it is useless, and i know i use my high beams alot in the country, and trying to read street signs at night.

Putting a 9005 (smaller diameter) into a 9006 socket is easy because the ring that buts up to the headlight housing is smaller in the 9005. It will go in with slack, just add another rubber grommet to snug it up.
Putting a 9006 into a 9005 socket however is very difficult. Making it plug in is very simple, but making the bulb actually fit into the hole is complicated.
Picture it like this... here is a 9006 base O here is a 9005 o You can easily fit o into O but fitting O into o is not possible.
You would have to some how shape down the mounting surface about 1/8th or 1/4 inch before it went into the socket.
Hope I didn't over complicate that post, haha.

thatll clarify also

i ran the 9005 bulbs in our low beams for quite a while and got amazing results output wise from it. The Silverstars lasted for a good while untill they blew and i went back to stock since i was working on my HID retro. I noticed the difference in color (stock-yellowish, silverstars-whitish) and output wise from the extra lumens (+600). Cheap mod and very usefull, even if using the stock 9005 bulbs. Here's the thread about it and a link where they got the idea.
