Default Spoiler install gone wrong *rant* *pics* *update pg 3*

Ok so about a month ago I got myself a kaminari flush mount wing. I had it shipped to my uncles place down in Brawley California (near Mexicali) because I was going to be house/dog sitting for him and he has a nice garage and I would have full access to his tools.

Ok so I get to my uncles place and immediately get to work. I was nervous as hell and I triple checked everything to make sure the holes lined up right..thinking I had it right I got to drilling. After drilling (with dull drill bits so it took #@%&*#^ forever) to what I thought was proper alignment to the holes, I went on to test fitting.

Now at this point I'm running out of time. My uncle knows a paint guy in Palm Springs who was hooking me up for a free paint job on the spoiler but I had to get the spoiler to him but 5pm that day..it was going on 1:30-2ish and palm springs is about 1.5-2 hours away (keep in mind I also had to drive about 3 hours to get to my uncles place from my house).

Confident everything would fit once I finished drilling got in my car and drove down to palm sprigns. dropped it off..came back..picked it up 2 days later. It looked awesome btw! The guy did a GREAT job..I think I found my paint guy haha (free or not).

Got it home and found I had drilled the holes wrong and by this point I said "screw this i'm going to get it done professionally" So i covered the holes with painter tape and left it that way for a week or two.

Fast forward to last weekend - grandfather offers to install the spoiler for me and give me a hand..me being stupid I said "ok but I don't have time to help today I have a meeting at work and then work at 3." All the problems start here....

HUGE jagged holes on the side of my hatch on the inside. When he finally gets it on he loses a couple of bolts and it was crooked on one side pretty bad. Ran otu of time over the weekend to try and fix the problem so now we come to today. He fixed the problem (somehow) its still crooked a ltitle bit (but i can live for now until i figure something later) and he somehow managed to get superglue on my hatch..(.btw anyway to remove that stuff???)

Anyway thats my spoiler story..*sigh* this has been a nightmare..sorry for the long post had to vent..I'll have pics up when I can.

Oh and before it starts - yes I know I should have been patient and waited till I could get it professionally installed either by a shop or my uncle who has done this sort of thing several times before on all kinds of vehicles. I know now what I am NOT doing when I get myself a 5axis lip

Got a couple iphone pics from after last weekends disaster.

You can kinda see that it is crooked on this pic..lower on the left.

And here is a close up of the hole that is now in my hatch

Here is a better shot of the hole to get an idea of where it is at.

is that hole under the spoiler........please for the love of God say it is..........super glue comes off also with laquerthinner or acetone but you will need to polish the area after to get the shine back.

Best rule of thumb when doing body work is start early in the day, sunrise is best, make no other plans for the car till next day and always use item like painters tape to work on and sharp drill bits always, get rid of the dull ones, buy new or sharpen them.

also if that hole is under the spoiler which I am hoping it is then you are ok but gonna have to sell car someday with spoiler still on,also get a good silicone seal around those holes so trunk does not rust out in 3 months.

Yeah trust me I'm tempted to..but "just get a new hatch" costs money and time I don't currently have.

Believe me I wasn't happy when I came home from work that night and saw that. I mean I understand my grandfather was doing it out of kindness but I wish he would have consulted me first before doing something like that. I seriously almost drove down to the local Subaru dealership and traded it for a WRX 5door even though my tC is almost paid off but when I calmed down I realized that wouldn't be the best choice financially...

As far as where its located i'll get some better pics later..I'm at work and the photobucket app on my iphone is giving me problems.

Right now we have duct tape over the hole ('if you can't duc it...") haha but yeah thats the plan..the guy that painted it actually gave me the left over paint but being the smart guy that I am it's currently at my uncles house because I left it there. I want to smooth out the hole first and take all the jagged edges off..at leat that way it won't look like somethign ripped through my car.

I'm actually considering *possibly* sueding the hatch to cover the holes..figure that would look a lot cleaner and it would cover the hole as well, or any marks it left behind.

As of right now I don't plan on selling the car for a LONG time...it's almost paid off and i"m still going to school so keeping the tC and paying it off is definitely the better financial decision. I have a few more plans for mods once it's paid off but after that I think I'll hold on to it. I love this car to much lol But yeah I see what you mean by having to leave it on there once its sold

The hole is underneath where the spoiler sits..didn't screw up THAT bad (as bad as it already is..)

Thanks for the tip on removing superglue as well! (don't ask how it got there...)

Unforunately the drilll bits were what my uncle had and I didn't have my personal ones (which hadn't even been used yet) with me. I didn't realize they were dull at the time (me being retarded of course) but trust me i've learned a lot from this experience.

Thanks for the tips Bzinn! I apreciate it

It only weighs a few pounds and judging from the way it is constructed I don't think It would sit right with just 3m tape..plus I'd rather have something like this bolted down anyway. It has bolts and a layer of tape on it.

Well like I was saying my frame of mind after seeing that for the next couple of days was "I'm trading the car in i'm @$%@ done" and almost got rid of it right then and there...I can afford it but it would not be in my best interest for the future.

Even after I decided I was gonna keep the car I almost came to the conclusion to stop modding. But then when I saw the spoiler on the car without the damage (despite being crooked) I realized that I love how clean it looked and I can't just let a few (rather nasty) bumps in the road stop me from doing what I love to do.

Or i'm just crazy pick one lol

Yeah I know I learned my lesson on that one....It was my stupid fault for asking my grandfather and assuming he could do it (don't get me wrong I love him to death) but to be fair he didn't rush it...he took his time..just..didn't take the time to think "should I stop at this point?" instead just kept going..*sigh*

But yeah..I have a different outlook on this sorta thing now lol trust me this isn't happening again
