Default SPOILER OBSESSION

what is with spoilers on moderately powered FWD cars...i mean yea a lip spoiler can add to the lines of your car...alittle...personally id rather have never gotten mine...and the pedestal spoiler? give me a brek...just dont look right at all...the trunk isnt large enough for such a rediculous spoiler...besides...doesnt a spoiler just give u extra rear drag...which on a FWD moderately powered car would probably do more harm then good...id much rather get a front diffuser to plant my front end down rather then a huge painted piece of plastic drilled into my hatch....what do you guys think? because im sick of all the topics that deal with spoilers...because theyre all ugly as well as unnecessary

It's all for show, leave the functional spoilers to the F1 teams.

I agree with you completely. Spoilers are 100% Grade A automobile crap. They are more so on the tC since the tC doesn't officially have a trunk door. I am tired of seeing these stupid attachments ruining good cars. I mean do you see spoilers on BMW's, Benz's, and Lexus's? No. Cause it makes the car look cheap and stupid.

While I partially agree that most of them look like crap... if someone wants to put one on... let them. If they try to put some gigantic rice wing on their tC and make it look like an uncle ben's box... let them.

All you have to do is laugh a little to yourself when you see it and go about your business. That's what I usually do when I see a Civic or Sentra with some space shuttle on the back of their car.

It's just how it is... let it go and just enjoy what you have and what you choose to put on your car.

Like Satmax said, it's all for show. The speeds you would have to go to see any true improvement in a rwd car would have to be far beyond daily driving. Spoilers look cool in many cases, that's why people get them.

I'm getting the pedestal but I don't have mine installed yet. I've seen 3 or 4 of them at the dealer and they definitely look nice. Much better in person than ANY pictures can show.

Agreed. We're picking up our FM with the pedestal tomorrow and I was honestly starting to regret the decision to get one when I looked around at different pictures on here, but we took a run out to the dealer to see it again in person, and it's so much better. They had all 3 flavors lined up (none, lip and pedestal), and we liked the pedestal best.

One thing you have to realize...If a company would spend thousands to manufacture these...they have to actually be functional...as in add SOME downforce...

Downforce is downforce...may not add traction because it's FWD, but you do have back wheels that do account for some stability at high speeds...

Most every accessory has a purpose...these are mostly for control...just, a very very small fraction of it...

Personally i agree with you. I think spoilers on the tc are not only useless but ugly. But some people like them. Alot of people like them acually.

Not true... not all accessories are functional. They spend thousands making them because people spend thousands buying them. 90% of the spoilers out there server absolutely no purpose aerodynamically. And may of them are made of a coated foam.. and can actually be bent by hand... you can see them flex in the wind. so they arent doing much. And at the speeds most cars are limited to, they will do no good.

Now, if someone wants to put one on.. then more power to them. I personally like the clean look unless it suits some positive purpose, which most spoilers do not. But if you like the looks, then go for it. Not all accessories are functional. Huge wheels are actually more counter function... those little canards that go on the front bumper... that can be broken off with a little pressure from ones foot are obviously not producing much down force either... graphics... shift *****... etc.... the list goes on and on. If you are buying them because you like the way the look, then no problem.. but dont think that they must be functional just because they make them. They sell what people buy.

You're right, I don't think the tC has enough of a "trunk" area to accomodate a spoiler. I think that's why it looks a bit weird.

<<<Then there are cars like my MR2 that are designed to have a spoiler, and all of them come with one from the factory. I took mine off for a while to rock it wingless, and it looked funky

IT IS CALLED ORIGINALITY, SAY IT WITH ME NOW, POST SOMETHING THAT MAKES SENSE, THAT IS LIKE SAYING, WHAT IS WITH RACING PEDALS IF YOU DO NOT RACE YOUR CAR, OR WHY DO YOU ALL PUT NEW RIMS ON YOUR CAR IF THEY COME WITH THEM, LET THEM BE, WHO CARES WHAT THEY DO TO THEIR CAR, IS IT YOURS?

not always true for spoilers. they don't have to provide any downforce. some are designed to stabilize the air flow at the rear of the car.
