Default Vented Hoods...How do they work?

Since I got the Supercharger I am thinking of allowing heat to escape from under the hood. I've seen Carbon Fiber vented hoods, but i don't know if it'll help enough or it's just for looks. Does the air from the grill blow inside into the engine and then out the vents or what?

Also, if you have an opening on your hood, do you have to take it out in the raining season or when you wash your car because water into your engine bay is not a good thing.

Someone please answer my questions and recommend a good hood with perfect fitment. thanks.

Some of them have waterguards that can be added that allow air, but minimize water going through...

I'd say they're somewhat functional, but I don't know if anyone has run them in a tunnel to see if in actuality, they do what they look like they are going to...??? I like the way the Kaminari Looks a lot.

I know on my stock car the water getting into the vents hasnt done anything, I even have an SRI and nothing bad has happened. Now if the vents actually help with heat I cant really say. On hot days I have seen hot air comming from the engine bay becuase of the visual distortion it cuases (you know the wavy lines) but I dont think its really doing that much.

Kaminari and MotorFX have vented hoods that fit perfect. ATI also has a hood but I dont remember what people have said about them

Probably, no one has ever stuck a temp probe under their hood to find out if it makes a difference

Well, you wouldn't really need to do that. If there is an opening for heat to escape, one would come to the conclusion that there is less heat under the hood. Compared to having no opening where the heat would just recirculate within the hood and engine bay.

Right?

True. What are you hoping to gain from lowering under the hood temps ? I would say its basically just for looks

hey tecrun, I'm looking to get the vented motorfx hood in the future also but do you think I'll have a problem with an ARC induction box?

You should have no problems with it fitting or with water. I have driven through rain and when I got home I checked the filter and it was dry

Heat soaking with the Supercharger is what I'm worried about.

I know someone who has a S/C and a ZPI head and havnt heard him say anything about heat soaking problems. Seems heat becomes an issue when people combine an aftermarket header with a S/C

Yes it's mostly due to getting an aftermarket header.

I have the AiT and deff notice heat coming out of the hole in the hood whenever I am stopped, like stated above there are heat waves, and I think that due to the AiT's hole being further aft it would help more but agina like stated above you'd need a wind tunnel run to prove anything, that or put a smoke source in front of the grill and then drive down the highway with the possibilty that the hole works great and all the smoke comes out the hole and you can't see ,, but it deff does release some of the heat when you are stopped so y not while driving??

dont know if they work, but i like the way they look. id also agree that all of the plastic under the front kinda kills alot of air flow through the engine compartment.
