I beg to differ on the part of "It would have happened to any other car regardless."
In my tC, a piece of blown tire approx 10" wide and about a foot long struck the middle of my bumper on the lower edge. Scratched to high heaven, plastic was cut into, paint just flaked off. That happened after I went through the interchange, so that was at 45-50mph.
In my Jetta, a piece was kicked up at me, it was a similar piece, maybe a little thinner, but longer. It hit my lower bumper edge on the passenger side. This was further down the same highway, so I was doing 65-70mph. After it hit, I pulled over to check it, and all the marks rubbed off. When I got her home, I looked at the spot at all angles I could and not a scratch, dent, paint chip, nothing.
Just a small tidbit, I drive my jetta more on the highway than I did my tC. The tC to and from work was 30-40 minutes round trip on city streets. In my Jetta, its 45-60 minutes on 75% highway one-way.
Also, anybody notice this problem and Toyota bragging that all their paint plants do Water based paints now and not oil based? Coincedence?
And yes, the new Camry suffers the same issue as the tC.
