Default Why SilverStars?

I wonder why people get silverstar headlight bulbs? They are totally yellow and look nothing like HIDs. My friend uses PlasmaGlow headlight (filled with Xenon & Kryton) which you can get really cheap off of ebay (even though it can be 70 bucks off their official website) they are hyperwhite with a very tiny blue tint DOT Approve. I'm getting them. Looks great on my friend's Celica GTS.

Uh... if you think Silverstars are yellow, you have to get your eyes checked b/c you could possibly be color blind. They aren't blue or anything, but they are certainly far from "totally yellow". As for looking like HIDs... sure there are a lot of "hid bulbs" or "hid kits" you can get, but they are not made for the stock housings. You should have a good set of projectors before you seriously consider HIDs. Especially anything off of eBay.

You could also look into Luminics - Hyper Whites and Ultra Violet bulbs. Or the new HIR bulbs that I keep reading about.

Silverstars are yellow if you compare it side by side with true HIDs. BUt if you look at silverstar by itself it's true it looks white. I will say it still looks yellow because you can tell the different from the real thing.

Try this simple test...
Put 1 SilverStar bulb in headlight housing in one side.
Leave Stock bulb in other.
Park tC in front of garage, wall, etc.
Wait until dark.
Turn on Headlights and SEE the difference.
The SilverStars are MUCH whiter than Stock. Unless you got a bunk set of SilverStars, the Stock Headlights should be amber while the SilverStars are white.

Why not compare it with the real thing? SilverStar vs. HIDs and PlasmaGlows vs HIDs?

Why not try the test between Silverstars and OEM and see pookie?

Your test'll prove very little, except that HIDs are going to spank both of those, and the Plasmas'll probably be somewhere in between Silvers and HID.

Silverstars do have a little hint of yellow in there. Of course they would look white next to the stock bulbs just as stock bulbs would look white next to yellow tinted bulbs. They have a little pruple tint at first but it begins to fade and turns more and mroe yellow over time.

Silverstars are not meant to be HIDs... by any stretch. They're just meant to be a simple aftermarket bulb that is whiter and brighter than OEM lights. That's what they accomplish and nothing more. Comparing them to HIDs does nothing.

Okay....it's time to put down the crack pipe and get some fresh air. I've had SilverStars in my last 4 vehicles and they are NOT yellow AT ALL. I agree that SilverStars don't look like HID, but they aren't supposed to for $38.

Why the silverstar hate? They are good bulbs and are definitely not yellow so why cant we buy what we like over expensive HID kits?

Did I say hate? Maybe I did probably don't mean to, think of me as a comsumer advocate. I just wonder why don't the company improve their product with the competition by putting in Kryton or something to make it a better quality bulb. I don't know if they are meant to look like HIDs or not, because the silverstar moto for the headlight bulb clearly says "The Look of HID" or something like that clearly printed on the package. I do love their signal lights for some reason since it's dyed blue and shine amber, problem for that is sometimes the bulbs look purplish. I ordered plasmaglows (cost me less than 20 a pair including the shipping) already and waiting for them. I already compared the two side by side with two different cars if that counts (Celica GTS w/ PlasmaGlow and Civic Si w/ SilverStars), PlasmaGlows look much nicer than silverstars from my "colorblind" fox eyes.

PS. My Celica friend has been told that he has HIDs.... many people can't tell the difference.

brighter? i doubt it. It has a very light blue tint that allows more light through than other aftermarket bulbs which makes a whiter light than stock. It simply makes it seem like it is brighter. Its probably brighter than other more heavily tinted bulbs. Im pulling this out of my ___ but someone can prove me wrong. I dont hate them, i just dont think its worth the money but thats just my opinion.

you dont think silver stars are brighter?

here's me expierence with them in my tc. ever since i installed them, i can see the road, and everything eles they shine on alot more clear and sharp. i can see the road and all debris on the road including potholes, branches, rocks, w/e is on the road alot better. they are much brighter and project alot farther. silverstar's are great for vision, they are not trying to be HID's and dont claim to be. they claim to be a great replacement bulb, and that they are.

one other question, why did you post this is a suspension forum?

SilverStars are bright, yes... but I'm trying to go for the HID look and also brighter bulbs so I have a order of PlasmaGlows coming in hopefully by next week. Again, lots of people mistaken my friend's Celica GTS's PlasmaGlows for HID because there is almost no difference when you compare it to the real HIDs. (Yes we already compare it side by side with the real thing too!) I would say that the color temperature is more than 8000k

I promise to post some pictures up in a new thread that I will give the link here and also in the right forum... sry guys I guess I'm still a noobie poster LOL.

Another thing his plasmaglow just died on him after 3 years. He just ordered StreetGlow instead of PlasmaGlow... the sale rep told him that is brighter than the plasmaglows since they don't have their right number bulb in stock (H7 I believe). We'll see once we get them I'll also post pics comparing the two PLasmaGlow vs StreetGlow. If StreetGlows are brighter than plasmaglow then I will switch to StreetGlow after the plasma one coming burns out.

Why not just buy HIDs instead of going the cheap way out??? Silverstars have a rep for being good if you wanna dog them and comapre them to HIDs its no contest just buy the HIDs and be done with it
