I think I know why people mistake the plasma glows for HIDs. Being over 8,000 K does NOT resemble HID. HID actually runs at 4,100K. Some manufactureres use 5,000K. Reason people mistake them for HIDs is the blue/purple flicker created by the hid projector. True HID color is pure white not blue/purple etc...

Blue bulbs don't look like HID, they don't look bright, they look silly from the point of view of on-coming traffic, and visibility from the driver's perspective is terrible at night.

8000K? You might as well bust out a can of blue spraypaint and put a few coats on your headlight housing.

Another thing you have to be careful of is the wattage of the bulbs you're getting. Very often cheap bulbs run at a higher wattage than your stock bulbs (sometimes twice as high) but the wiring to the harness wasn't made for that kind of load and very often the wiring/harness melts/catches fire. It happened in my co-workers car, and to my roomate's girlfriend's car.

I'd have to recommend MTEC's over the Plasmaglows. Also, you can buy hid bulbs that plug directly into teh stock housing for a retro fit. Both of those can be found at www.vividlights.com

The set I had on my old car lasted less than 6 months before one of them burnt out. No, I didn't touch the bulb and yes I know they burn hotter because of the looser filament inside it.

I got my PlasmaGlows I'm going to post them here when I get pics! Get ready to be awed. LOL JK. But I want you guys to see how bright are they.. it's between SilverStars and HIDs... I think they are closer to HIDs. I reccomend anyone to get plasmaglows buy it off of ebay from newlevelmotorsports.com they have a really good rating plus you can get it under $20 that includes the shipping. Usually PlasmaGlows retail at $70!!! Plus that price for something brighter than SilverStars?!? I think it's a great deal. LOL I feel like a salesman.

Maybe it's going to be around when I goto Tapioca Express Grand Opening Meet (this saturday night)

My friend bought and tested the StreetGlow Xenon bulbs he said even though it runs at a higher wattage it's still duller than the PlasmaGlow maybe because it doesn't have the kryton gas in it.

That color temperature scale isn't correct from what I can see. I seen other scales with different readings than yours. Hmmm maybe I should check again.

I'm getting them. Looks great on my friend's Celica GTS.
I'm glad you're happy with your purchase. Thanks for being supportive of those of us who are just as happy with our Silverstars.

It really is great to see community-minded posts like this on Scion Life.

Any bulbs with the blue tint around it will not be as bright as stock. It does not matter if it is the expensive Piaas, the Lumatics, or the PlasmaGlows. Just think about it, if you take a clear glass bulb and dip it in blue tint to change the color of the light, how can that make the bulb any brighter?

Some manufacturers may increase the wattage on these bulbs to compensate for the decreased lumens, but that comes at a cost of possible melted wiring harnesses, hotter running bulbs, and decreased bulb life.

If you guys have some time, read the tech pages on this website.

The tC have sivler-star bulbs Stock.. Just look at the bulb when you remove it. You are just buying a different type of silverstar bulb.. So I really have no idea what the heck this thread is about.

that is completely wrong.

it is a Sylvania bulb, but it is not a Sylvania Silverstar bulb. you can tell the differance when you look at the bulbs next to each other, and the silverstars give much more clean light, and is brighter

so timmyt.... thats what this thread is about.... the stocks are not silver stars

^^^ Dude. You need to do some research about the whole subject. Having just read this thread - it's filled with good info, yet you continue to talk BS about lights.
When you fry your harness - and you will when you buy your (sic) Kryton bulbs from ebay, come back and tell us how much better they are.

Spend some time listening to those that know, and accept that people here are trying to help you.

i never fried my harness using my 80 watt (output 150watts) bulbs. And I used them for more than couple month. Right now I upgraded to HIDs from McCulloch. So I really dont know what do you mean by BS? blubs dont last as long as HIDs that's already proven.

BTW Silverstars are higher wattage than it suppose to be also( 55watts). Silverstars can also fry your harness. It's just a chance you have to take if you dont know how to install them correctly.
