also i beilve they make several types of HID bulbs ones for projectors and ones for standard housings, when the first HIDs ever hit the market they were in the mercedes S class and they did not have a projector.

^^ keep in mind though that when they first came out, they had TONS of complaints from other drivers about the glare. The NHTSA and other organizations investigated (And I think still are investigating) all of the aspects of this. One issue is the sensitivity to the blue part of the spectrum by the human eye. I think you will see everything in projectors and more heavilly regulated.

Ignorance reigns supreme on this thread. For all you people wo think that HID is a waste of money, that's fine you are all entitled to your opinions. I happen to think multi toned paint jobs, underbody lights, and big spoilers are a waste of money. But I don't go posting in threads about these subjects scolding people on how unnecessary their mods are. ALL MODS ARE UNNECESSARY! That's why they are mods. If they were needed, the car would have come with it in stock form. Therefore it is hipocritical to criticize one mod over another based on necesity. That being said it is ok to criticize a mod based on safety.

For all that argue that some cars come with stock HID in a reflector. This is why HID is not for everyone and people shoulod do as much research as possible before just slapping things on to their car. I wouldn't put a cat back exhaust on if I did not know what a cat was. I wouldn't put a turbo on if I did not know the maintenance and tuning aspect first. I would probably do some research first. Wow, what a concept. Cars that come with stock HID in reflectors have D2R bulbs that have reflectors specifically designed for them, they also have coatings on the bulb in specific places to minimize glare. Our stock housing says 9006, you would not put a D2R bulb in a 9006 housing. They have different size bulbs and would yeild unpredictable results. But this is exactly what you are doing when you buy a kit. You are rebasing D2R bulbs and putting them into 9006 housing. This is like putting an H4 in an H11 or 9005 housing. That's why you are blinding everyone. If you look at your cuttoff, not only is it sloppy but thereis lots of light scattered above it. A set of projectors completely solves this problem. A retro done correctly uses OEM products and as a result, matches and even surpasses the performance of OEM setups on most luxury cars.

Also, to those with kits, It is too late for me to criticize your decision but I will recomend out of the kindness of my heart that you get a relay harness to protect your stock wiring. It may not happen this year, but don't listen to me and in a few years you will know what I mean.

Yes, a big part of getting any kind of HID is bling factor. But, last time I checked, a bodykit neve improved anyones time, and a new set of deep dish only served to rob people of performance. Still nobody can deny how much these things can add to the car and they both cost significantly more than a retro. Atleast the retro is a mod that looks good and adds safety to the vehicle.

Oh, and i forgot to mention. Those with the High kelvin temp HIDS 6000k and up. If your honest with youselves you know you ain't seeing shyte at night. Especially those with the halogens. It is a mental delussion. When I first got my silverstars I thought they were so much brighter than stock, untill they burnt out 2 months later and I put my stock lights back in realizing that stock is way better. It is a different light and appears different because there is a white or blue color coating everything, but as far as actual light, like lumens, they all struggle, you will notice this once you are on a road with no street lights or worse in the fog. Trust me I tried PIAA, Luminics, Nokya, and various ebay lights. My luminics put this baby blue coating over everything but as far as visability, very dangerous. Oh but I got lots of compliments! The only ones that compared with stock as far as visability were the ones that were higher watt like 80w, and those are the ones that will destroy your harness. Any 55w bulb that has any color filter on it will perform worse than stock, I don't care how much XENON gas the manufacturer claims is in it. Let's face it, the only nreason any of the bulbs are on the market is to mimic the look of real HIDs. None of them look like HID in anyway not even the High temp kits, nobody that pays attention is fooled. There is no such thing as blue or purple HID. What these manufacturers are seeing and trying unsuccessfully to duplicate is the arc of light that i bent by the shield and projected as different colors at the cuttoff. When the cuttoff hits your eye, that is the color flicker you see when a bmw is driving by. Not his ricey purple and blue lights.

Love how people with plug and play HIDs in their headlights try to justify that it is the right way to go by bringing up cars wth headlights designed specifically for HIDs.

Projectors is the way to go on a TC; regular halogens will put out less light and burn out on you fast.

P.S. This thread sucks a$$
