Default 11lb Flywheel = better accelleration?

My Clutch may be gone, very hard to go into gear. 05 with 130k hard driving miles.. I beat this car up everyday so I cant complain.. LOL

My questions are:
  1. Considering Excedy 11lb flywheel and clutch kit. Is Excedy a decent brand? Great price online for the kit, less than $400. Next option wold be a Spec clutch and separate flywheel.
  2. Will my ACCELERATION suffer (top end) due to the lower mass flywheel?
I heard a story from a Honda friend that he lost top end after moving to a 9lb flywheel. He would jump nasty off the line, but then everyone would pass him in 4th gear.. He went back to stock flywheel and now doesnt lauch as hard, but is now pulling away in 4th..

I know our engines are vastly diff (2a vs vtec) and we have more tq down bottom, but our engines (stock) have NO top end power and I dont want that to suffer.. Anyone with real world experience with 11lb on a tc..? I have Intake only right now.

Thanks.

p.s. I've read the many treads about the physics of this topic.. Looking specifically for performance gain or loss info, both off the line, and top end based on what others have experienced with our car.

Thanks

i dont think anyone has gone that in-depth with our cars on just the flywheel, most have moved to forced induction if they are using a lightweight flywheel. Then again, with proper tuning, most of it can be compensated for.

i wouldn't worry about a flywheel unless you're thinking of going F/I. not really worth it if you're n/a.

well the way i learned from some people i know is that a lightweight flywheel is good for road racing because it allows you to get your revs up faster as you leave the corner since it has less rotational mass and that a heavier flywheel is good for drag racing because the it has a larger rotational mass so it keeps your revs up(they dont fall as quickly) as you are shifting gears. i hope that makes sense.

i have more top end power in my tc then low end, thats just cause of all the stuff i have,if your talking about stock, thats different, but getting a flywheel will only benefit you if your turboed and or race......i dont think theres real info on just the fly wheel on a N/A tc......is it worth it,i dont know,

Flywheel has a very small effect on rotational mass and will provide a small hp increase all the way across the powerband. It does make the car slightly harder to get off the line.
