if you want to swap ECU's, yes..

with the tranny swap, you can use your auto ECU but i noticed that the idle is kind of shaky. it stays like at 500-600 rpms. once i swapped it out for a manual ecu, then the idle was normal.

the car wont start if you just swap ECU's.. your auto ECU has your vin registered to it, the manual ECU has another vin number.. so basically you gotta do the trick to bypass it. it's simple.

 

my break-in period for my custom clutch/flywheel has ended..

i was finally able to feel the difference between the auto and manual, and wow.. it's fun. as a matter of fact, i beat a GSR today. :X i thought i was gonna lose once i felt the loss of power in 3rd.. but after 5k rpm i kept pulling on him and by the time i was on 4th, he gave up.. i beat him by at least a car length.. those GSR's are quick.

 

I didn't want to create a new topic for this, so I'm going to post here. I own a Scion tC that I purposely bought as an automatic tranny because it was an everyday car for work and back. I just got my RX-7 repaired finally, and it has made me miss the ability to shift with my tC. I was wondering if there were any semi-automatic trannys available, or if there was some kind of plug-in kit that would allow me to shift when I'm not stuck neck deep in traffic.

I was thinking semi-automatic because then I could spread the pedals out a bit and use two feet to drive very easily, which would make it very similar to the karts I race for fun from time to time.

 

what is the socket size for the drain plug for the transmission fluid under the car?

 

i like the idea of the tranny swap but too money for now, so everything is working out good like starting the car up and shifting without problems?

 

yes. starting the car is fine.. shifting is smooth as stock.. well, smoother now since I replaced the tranny fluid with redline.

 

I work at Scion so i pretty much get all those parts for more than half off.

So if I decide to swap then I'm get my parts from work. =)

oh and my friend said he'll do the labor for me for only $150 which is ridiculously cheap. i wont come around to this for awhile though. i'm gonna turbo my car first. i'm not really in a rush to swap at all.

 

i think your better off swapping the tranny first because if you go turbo first then you'll add more stuff to the tranny so it won't mess up on you..just my .2 cents

 

id suggest you do the tranny swap first because it would be a waste of time and effort reinstalling the piping, etc..

and besides, you need to tune the turbo. tuning for a manual and an auto is two different things.. and tuning costs money also.

 

I was thinking about saving up for a turbo (around $4500-$5500) and was thinking of using that money to swap my auto for a manual instead. Should that be enough? I would probably go with an upgraded clutch/lighter flywheel right off the bat so I don't have to worry about that later on.

 

So I've been thinking about switching my tranny as well.. but i was just curious cuz i have an 07 tC and well this this dude just ended up getting his tC T-boned
and well if all parts are salvageable does it matter if its an older tranny? cuz I thinking his tC's either an 05 or an 06...or doesn't it not matter?

No it doesn't matter. The only thing they ever changed on our cars between 05-06 and 07-08 years is the MAF sensor so everything should bolt up just fine, although I heard from someone that the 05's had crappy synchro's? Not sure. But yeah basically as long as the parts are off of a tC you're fine

yea i bought a 2007 when it first came out and it was a maual. and i totalled it then when i went to get another 1 it was a auto. but it was only 10Gs so thats y i got it. but now I need to swap the tranny out for a manual 1 so that parts list did help out a bit thanks

 

look to spend around 3 k for the tranny swap, i did it last year...it was a pain and the crappy part is missing itty bitty parts that you need...and what makes it worse is that the lil parts when you need them will be on BACKORDER....my car was out for a month and a half just waiting for lines, brackets, and what not. the good news is you can save your money and not buy a manual harness, i used my auto one and it works fine its just extra wires but saves you 600 bucks so yeah. you should try to sell your tc and get a used 5 speed tc, you might lose a lil money, but itll save you headaches.

 

I have an automatic its still a fun car with it.Manual is fun at first but for everyday it sucks.I think it anyone that wants to switch out there trans for a manual might be better off rebuilding there auto and get some valve body work done on it.Probably a lot cheaper if your not afraid to do most of it your self.I'm holding out to get a used automatic rebuild it and upgrade what I can myself in the clutch packs.(better clutches,remove the wave springs)I'm still doing research on what I can do to the valve body.I have read quite a few posts of people doing some of this with good results.I never done an import trans before but have done a few GM turbo 350's and made them shift like a _____.Its an option to look into.Might even be cheaper.Probably cost me under a grand to make a nice trans for the street more if I buy a second trans to rebuild then just swap out in a weekend.
