you know before zpi went down the drain they offered a auto rebuild for like 1200 i think dont quote me but it supposively can hold up to the abuse...but i dont think anyone ever did it.

So... I'm actually looking to do the opposite... I either want to convert it it to an auto or look for a bone stock tc that is auto for a straight trade. I'm going to transfer colleges and I don't think i'll be taking my car to socal, so I'm giving it to my sister who doesn't want to learn how to drive manual. My parents and sister are willing to pay for the conversion if there is such a thing.

does anyone know if there is cutting or modding that needs to be done to the car itself or should everything fit perfectly?

We're actually doing a manual to auto conversion (and are just now finishing up an auto to manual swap). I'll see if I can get it documented and post it up here once it's done.

Default trade in

Ok I also am thinking of doing an auto to manual swap. and I hear people saying why not trade it in, Well I bought my tC auto so my ex-girl could learn how to drive ( I KNOW BIG DUMB STUPID MISTAKE ). So how exactly would I trade in my car, Wouldn't a trade cost me more money than just doing the swap.

Thanks in advance for the replies

well consider this...

you buy all the parts and labor costs and such is gonna cost you upwards of $3k

now if you trade the car in..depending on how much you owe and how much upside you'll be you will probably be out just the same amount (maybe more maybe less)

but with a trade in at least you pay it off over time and not all at once..not to mention you don't have to worry about something going wrong with the swap and the car not running right or something

yea I understand you point but since I still have 17 Gs left to pay off my tC it would be way cheaper to swap the trany. Thanks for the reply

parts alone will cost close to 3k, depending on where you get them.

We charged the customer about 5k to do the 5spd swap to his car.

It's not so easy as just swapping the trans. If it was... a lot more people would have done it by now

wow

super useful information here.

but one thing.

would the cluster from a manual tc from ANY year work on ANY year? or does that have to be year specific?

i see i see.

idk. swapping it out for me is more practical at this moment instead of trading it in. also it'll be cheaper. car is nearly paid off.

and materials WITH and LSD is going to cost me around 1800. and the shop that helps me work on my car is Pride Performance. And they'll be helping me out as well with this.

So for ME, its cheaper to do the swap.

you need the lower part of the center console from a manual cause it has a boot in the shifter place instead of the panel that says d-1-2-3
