i think that box thing is only for the final few seconds before a crash.. but maybe they monitor more than just that.

doubt it , a data logger would cost more to put in every scion than to just fix the very few defective tcs..

After you put the stock parts in.... Grab some dust from the vac and toss it on the engine to make it look like there hasn't been any mods taken off it in the last 24 hours.... It will make it look more like you never look at your engine bay that much.

Just some 2 cents.

guru,

You are assuming that this is the only time he drove the car this way, that you know what failed and how and that he drove the car correctly when he was racing it. If he is out street racing all the time, and breaks the car, it is HIS fault. That is my point. Even if he did it once and drove it bad enough, that would be plenty reason for it to break. It is incorrect to assume the car is built dummy proof.

And the dealer can tell if the rev limiter has been hit. So can anyone with the right tools. I know a lady that found out her lincoln had hit the rev and speed limiter when she took it to my dads shop for work. Needless to say her son or husband got an earful that night

I am not saying that it is 100% his fault. But hearing that he street races (dumb to start with and shows poor decision making) and his motor blew while racing someone, it doesnt look to good. I am just saying that if he knows he beats on the car a lot, he should not try to get the dealer to pay for it. If you start racing a car, you take on the responsibility for things breaking due to it. At least you should from an ethics standpoint IMO. If he simply ran it semi hard (didnt bounce off the limiter, etc) that one time and had issues, it could be something else, but I just hate to see people racing thier car and then taking it in for warranty work. That is why it is so hard for others to get things fixed under warranty.

^^ yeah my parents sold a volvo to a 17 year old kid he went out that night and we know he had to b doing roll backs with the thing because it was mint well they sold it for 1000 dollers and theres the lemon law and the kids was 17 so he brought it back and my parents had to give him the money back so they got stuck with a broken volvo

IDK if this was me id put the stock parts back on and bring it to the dealership and see if u can get them to warranty it and i dont see why not to screw the dealership they screw millions of people everyday (but this is a 20 year old talkin) <---right! dang kids

yea im not sayin that street racing is the smartest thing to do. its not like i do it everyday. i take my car to the track once in while when i have time. but my bad luck is that the time i did it the engine went. but he lets see what the dealer says.

i knoow these engines arent dummy proof but they're not crap either..

I remember reading something about another person on this board who blew an engine. The dealer refused to warranty it because he was low a quart and a half of oil. The manual states to check it every time you fill up your tank. I think.

Put the car back to stock form. Call a flat bed. Take it to the dealer with all your service records and act stupid. Like I have always said: "If you can get away without paying for it then do it"(unless your breaking a law)...............

Don't listen to everyone saying the "RIGHT" thing to do. Toyota has enough money to spare an engine.........

He forgot to mention that he did an oil change the day before and forgot to put new oil in. There is no way beating up a 30K Toyota will blow your motor. There is a piece missing in this puzzle. I bet you were sitting at a red light with your stereo up while you had you foot matted to the floor thinking you were at idle. Even that would require the red light to be a lllooooooong light to blow your motor.

No way huh? I have seen people beat up a bmw and blow the motor in less. Give me your tC, and say I cant beat on it and blow the motor .... as long as you are willing to pay to fix it

how are the bmw engines by the way? im getting a 2007 bmw 328i stick can u run the engine as hard as the tc? new engines are magnesium not sure if it maters..
