I would say that cams would be worthless in this engine. With such a low rev limit you are going to end up with a very small powerband that will only make your car slower.

If you changed the cams, heads, springs, retainers and pistons then maybe it would be worth it. I'd say just work on the heads for the most power.

you would most likely benefit more with cams in a F/I engine rather than all motor

Camshafts can and will up the power in these vehicles. With a 96mm bore this vehicle would benefit greatly from more duration and more lift. Camshafts won't neccessarily shift the RPM band. If you design a camshaft to work in a given RPM band then it will do its work. Camshafts in this vehicle are restrictive to meet MPG ratings just like honda, nissan, GM, etc. No manufacturer is gonna max out these parameters in a passenger vehicle. I do agree with TCengel about the head, if it doesnt flow than nothing will up the power. The best bet for N/A would be to get some 2AZ-FXE pistons (if its possible giving engine variants), larger bumpsticks, Port & polish the head, and i/h/e.
FYI-This isnt Gmoney, this a fellow employee (Honda owner).

Could the FE engine handle that much compression? The FXE is Atkinson cycle. Please enlighten me.

Crower will not have cams available but luckily Brian Crower is working on some which are just about done. Both the all motor and the turbo guys will benefit greatly from these.

you guys need to do some research before informing people of your misled beliefs of cams and there effects of only changing rpm range. thats rediculous.

your giving people false info and is causing alot of people who don't know alot to do stupid things or just ignor whats important.

gmoneys friend is right on the money. you can change duration, lift, advance, retard, ect. these may not increase power but will change low-end mid-range and high-end power points. extemely important to FI guys. and more lift means more air and fuel, longer duration means more and fuel. more and fuel means more power, provided the two are balanced. you need to do some research on wich cam will work for you before you just buy one. even though none are available. I recomend seeing what everyone is going to put out and how other scion owners like certain cams and then decide what will work best for your application.

just my .02
