Default Clutch and flywheel hate the cold.

Whats up guys. I got SC tC with a clutchmasters stage 2 (kevlar) clutch and a fidanza (aluminum) flywheel installed about 8k ago. As the winter became brutal and my car has been forced to start in below freezing temperatures ive noticed a stange noise as it idles. The noise will last for about 3-4 minutes and dissapears as the engine warms. It sounds like a wobbly whine. At first i thought it was my supercharger, however in that 3-4 minutes when i first start it, if i push in on the clutch (disengage) the noise stops and when i release the clutch (engage) it comes back. This led me to believe it was the clutch/flywheel combined with the intense cold. Im well aware that aluminum expands and contracts to temperatures differently compared to a steel flywheel. Im not to sure how kevlar reacts to the cold though. Either way i was wondering what is happening to create such a noise and if this is normal. Thanks.

i know it does that a little on mine. if i start my car and just go it doesn't like it one bit. and one thing i do now when it's real cold and i can't warm up my car, i turn it on and then pump the clutch a few times. Then it doesn't act funky when driving.

I have the same thing, 08 tc with only 12k miles on it. In NC the temps have not made it above 25 degrees in over a week and the past couple days, when starting the car cold i get a whine from the engine bay that almost sounds like a belt slipping, but when pressing in the clutch pedal the noise goes away. I'm pretty sure its the TOB but not 100% on that. ____es me off none the less cause i've babied my car from day one with 8 miles on the odo.

Doesn't make sense that the clutch would make noise with the clutch out since nothing is touching and all clutch parts are clamped together and turning at the same time. Only thing different is the input shaft to the tranny is spinning when the clutch pedal is up and not spinning when down. Does the whine stop with light pedal pressure (throwout bearing touching) or when fully pressed to the floor? Could be crank walk?

The noise only stops when the clutch pedal is fully pressed to the floor, like what it takes to start the car

That sounds more like a tranny problem - tranny input shaft bearing.

must not know much bout clutches.. when a clutch is having a failing TOB (throw out bearing) itll make noises when idling but when you depress the clutch the noise goes away ...

TOB is not touching anything but the fork that moves it and the non-rotating tube around the input shaft when the pedal is up so nothing on the TOB is moving when the pedal is up. Unless something is wrong with it like installed wrong or not retracting all the way.

I highly doubt its my transmission as that also only has 8k on it.

Last night wasnt as cold (29) as the other nights and there was no noise at all. I think its something to do with the thermal expansion of the aluminum flywheel and/or the kevlar clutch plate. The car runs beautifully when warm and the noise is only present the first 3-4 minutes after the car starts in the brutal cold only.
