Aight im kind of in the same boat as the guy a few posts up, I read this whole thread and i think i know the answer but i'd like some confirmation just to be sure.

If i DO have a small audio system and plan on expanding it in the future, is it practical for me to get any of these pulleys and if so then which ones?

Hi!

Quick questions

1. Any reason why the warantee on these is only 1 year while others like Agency Power or manufactures like OBX offer a life time warantee?

2. I have a 2005 tc - if I get the 20% alt and WP pulley can I get a CR-lite Crank Pulley to avoid getting a new belt (worry about belt size and issues).

If Yes, would this set up slow down my accessories?

Also just to confirm with a 20% underdrive pully and the alt and wp pulleys there is no change in the speed of the accessories?

3. As a seller of NST and having such a great relationship with scionlife and with tc/xb owners any way we can get a group buy and or special discount for scionlife memebers? $270.00 is a lot to drop on pulleys not to mention the belt and/or shipping.

Thank you!

Is your car's electrical system doing OK with your audio system right now?

If the answer to that question is YES, then you should go with our Underdrive Crank Pulley (NST02020) and Alt & WP kit (NST02025K) for the best performance, if your car is N/A or Turbocharged.

If your car is TRD Supercharged, you will want to go with the NST CR-Lite Crank Pulley ( NST02148 ) along with the Alt & WP kit (NST02025K) for best results.

Thanks again, good luck and have fun with all your projects!

First, thank you for your interest in our site and products, we appreciate it. I will answer your questions in the order you have asked them...

1. Our warranty has always been one year. NST was the first company to design and develop pulley kits for the Scion xA, xB, tC, and xD. As you can see by looking around these forums, we offer more pulleys for the line of Scion cars than all of our competition combined, and our pulleys are the most popular. Although we offer a warranty, we have NEVER seen reports of any pulley/engine failure when one of our pulleys has been used. The warranty could be changed to one month or one decade, the chances are that 99.99% of our customers will never need to claim a warranty request.

2. Yes, you can use our Alt & WP kit (NST02025K) and CR-Lite Crank Pulley (NST02148 ) in order to retain your OEM belt. Many of our customers, especially the TRD SC guys, use this combination.

3. Our Crank Pulleys have been offered at a $110.00 MSRP for YEARS now. This is the lowest price when compared to any other major pulley manufacturer. We offer you the lowest price, best performance, and best service... without you having to ask for a discount. Our pulleys were the first to hit the market, they are the best performing options, they are all HARD ANNODIZED, are all designed and manufactured in the USA, and are offered in different color options. In addition, NST has been the only pulley manufacturer to sponsor Scion owners, to sponsor Scion race cars, to sponsor and support Scion events, meets, and shows, and has been the only pulley manufacturer to support the local AND national Scion community.

Thanks again, good luck and have fun with all your projects!

I have a nst 65mm s/c pulley on my 06 tc. I have the recommend gates belt NST7K890 also. Ever since being installed i get a squeal at start-up and at low rpm when engaging the clutch into first gear. I never had this problem with the oem s/c pulley and belt. How can I fix this? thanks

As I posted a few replies above this one...

One of the first things to check would be to make sure that you are using a GATES brand belt.... K070890 for the 2006 TRD SC tC. Other brands make similar belts, but they are not always true to size.

Next, you would want to make sure that your belt is in good condition... no tears, rips, or cracks. Old belts sometimes stretch over time due to weather and old age, and will need to be replaced eventually. You will want to stay away from excessive use of "belt dressing" or other sprays that will eventually wear away at the belt.

Feel free to give us a call should you need to chat about your setup!

My belt only has a 1000 miles on it and im still having slip issues. Getting annoying. Is it possible to go down another belt size? If so what belt would i need? thanks

The next size down is GATES K070885.

YES! You can definitely use our ALT & WP Kit with the OEM crank pulley and OEM belt!

Good luck and have fun with all your projects

That's pretty good! Belts are wear and tear items, much like tires, and they need to be replaced every 30 to 40K miles. And you should be able to find your belt for about $20 to $30.

Good luck and have fun with all your projects!

I have a hell of a lot less than 30k on this belt trust me. Are the pulleys supposed to wear the belt down THAT fast? I was under the impression a serpentine belt was supposed to last a lot longer than just 30k-40k miles. Not bashing or anything but that just doesn't sound right to me.

I've had my NST pulley kit on my car for a little over or maybe under a year i don't remember exactly when i purchased it but about less than a month ago on my way home from work my car stalled out and i lost all control and nearly crashed into another vehicle. I managed to forcefully direct the car over to the shoulder and upon popping the hood i noticed that the belt came off and assumed that was it but when i looked down i noticed that my water pump pulley completely broke off where it was bolted down.

Here's a pic:

Luckily for me i still had my stock water pump pulley in my car and was able to put it on after 3hrs with basic hand tools cause it was impossible to stop that pulley from spinning in order to get the bolts off.

WOW!!!

That looks crazy. I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, and I'm glad to hear that you are back on the road again.

This is definitely not anything that is normal. I don't recall having seen anything like this before with the tC. Just by looking at your pic there, and not knowing any of the other facts, it looks to me like there may have been a bit too much torque applied to the bolts holding the pulley in place. Too much torque on the bolts could potentially lead to too much stress on the pulley, theoretically.

Please contact us by phone during business hours and I'd be happy to work with you in getting a replacement pulley under warranty.

Good luck and have fun with all your future projects!

NST Pulleys do not wear down belts any faster than OEM pulleys.

A set of high quality belts such as Gates belts should last quite a long time. Unfortunately, they are not built to last forever. Different factors such as driving conditions, weather, humidity, etc. all affect belt life. Sometimes they last 30K, sometimes they last 60K.

Unfortunately there is no exact formula for calculating this life expectancy. Luckily, they are cheap wear and tear items that can be replaced without spending too much cash.

Thanks again, good luck and have fun with all your projects!

hi guys. i've made sure to read all the way through this thread to minimize any dumb questions i might have

but i wanted to ask. since i have a naturally aspirated 05 tc, i was planning on making pulleys my next bolt-on. basically, i'd like to start off with just the underdrive crank pulley and go from there. am i correct in thinking that i can buy that pulley by itself? of course id need to order the new belt too but thats not a problem. then, when money permits, i can buy the Alt and WP pulleys as well for a little more power. thanks to any replies, you guys at SL are always helpful.
