Default Custom Short Shifter

I have tha CC short shifter but I want it shorter. Instead of buying the TWM stage 2, which by the way they are currently out of stock, I have a friend tha could cut my old shifter and rethread it. I want to know if I just cut 2.5" off then rethread it or cut like 2" and thread .5"? I dont want it to be to schort to where it doesn't work. I just need to know how the stage 2 compares to the shock shifter?

well considering the other half of the shifter of a SS is slightly longer so you get the ACTUAL short shifting. Cutting the top of a shifter will do nothing except for you to have probably worst shifting.

yea, if you cut off that much you'll make shifting more difficult...

cutting the shifter WILL shorten the throw. shorter length in the shaft means a shorter distance for the top of the shaft to travel! HENCE, shorter throw. simple geometry. although there is a line where you can go too far. i would cut the shifter 2 inches and thread .5 inches of it. you should be fine. THERE ARE TWO WAYS OF SHORTENING THE THROW AND THIS IS ONE. the other would be a kit that doesn't necessarily shorten the length of the shaft, but only tightens up the shifting such as a B&M kit. TWM does both. I have a TWM shifter, but was originally going to shorten my stock shifter. Randode will shorten your stock shifter for you if you mail it in and pay the 65 dollar fee. all of these things you should consider. i know many will disregard this post because of my age, but i know what i'm talking about. -dustin

no it won't

simple geometry tells you the distance of the throw is determined from the fulcrum of the pivot. If you cut it, it will still pivot the same distance, but you will now have to move your hand further to actually move it into gear.

no it won't pivot the same distance. put a three foot extension on the shifter and then tell me your hand moves the same distance...

remove your shift boot, grab the bottom of your shifter, and proceed to shift that way.

"test" the custom shifter and see if it works.

what i was trying to explain to him is that there is no leverage.

Yeah, i shouldn't have said anything about age, but what he's suggesting is wrong....also his reference to "simple geometry" kinda irritated me

i read no reference to leverage. i was speaking of throw. i thought that was what this whole topic was about? in that case i agree, it could make it harder, but you are shortening the throw.

Plain and simple, the throw will be shortened. Now how it will affect the feel the shifter is in the air. I think everyone will agree it will not feel better then with the stock TWM but NO ONE knows exactly how it will feel. Let him try so you don't have too. If he likes it great for him but please do not make it sound like you tried it already.

suggesting to someone to break parts on his vehicle isn't cool.

might be to you, but not to the majority of the decent people in the world.

Have you looked at bushings? My short shifter came with 4 bushings that you put underneath the whole shifter assembly and it raises the whole thing up about 1/2 an inch... even though my actual ____er isn't extremely short, my shifts definitely are. This is the one I got (I know, its form ebay, and it's a suspiciously low price, but it works really well). [http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-05...pagenameZWDVW]
The 4 things in the bottom of the picture are the bushings.

gaps, since you're 18 i'm gonna assume you're a eithe a freshmen or sophmore engineer...so basically you haven't taken any real engineering classes yet either. and plus, i'm ECE and it's really not that hard...
