Default Differential replacement

Hi, all. How hard is it to replace the differential in my '06 tC with MT? On the other hand, how much should I expect a shop to charge? FWIW, I'm in northern VA.

(Not sure why it won't let me post in the general tech & DIY forum?)

Circa $750-1000. Might as well get a good LSD like Quaife/TRD or OS Giken in there.

Yeah shops will charge you arm and leg to do any internal transmission work. Might as well just put in new used transmission. Are you replacing your stock with LSD or just another stock diff? I have a stock differential with bearings laying around if you need one. This thread is as close to DIY as it gets:

I agree with putting in used tranny, unless you want an LSD install. In that case, I would attempt to install the LSD myself (provided you have basic tools and understanding of drive train). If this is your DD and you need back on the road asap, I would go for the used tranny; however, an LSD makes a big difference in power to the pavement! You did not mention why you are replacing??

I'm having differential trouble, myself. From what I've been able to find, it sounds like my carrier bearings on the diff are going bad, but most places are saying to assume a full rebuild.

Paul, is the $750 - $1000 for parts AND labor?

Dre, I thought about just having a shop swap in a used tranny, but I hate the thought of inheriting someone else's problems. I mean, someone had to take theirs out for a reason, right? How much would I be looking at for a used tranny (parts, labor)? Or new?

Ab501u71yR3d, that sounds like a fun project, but maybe I can just find a used tranny WITH an LSD?

Don't know how much the open factory diff is. Labor is around $750-1000
