DIY: oil change W/ PICS!!
OKAY so I'm 100 miles down to my next oil change. I just bought 4 quarts of mobile 1, mobile 1 oil filter, now I'm seeing this about a drain plug and washer. I know I can get a washer from the dealership, but the drain plug, is that necessary? doesn't it have a drain plug already? And if I do need to replace it, how much would it cost =).

You do know that the drain plug is what is currently keeping the oil from coming right on out of your car. It is already there, just take it off to drain the oil and replace it before you put the new oil in.

Ok I have a question... right now Im really broke and cant buy oil but I have some new Mobil 1 Synthetic thats 10w30 instead of the 5w30 I normally use. Will it be ok to use this oil this time if I get a new filter?
It isnt a bad idea, but it isnt necessary each time. I inspect it each time, but only replace it every 5 changes or so usually. Hell, I have re-used the washer on some cars for 10 - 15 changes. I have never had an oil plug leak on a car I owned.
But, they are cheap, so if you go out and buy a few, it isnt bad to replace them while you are under the car I guess.

So 5w-20 is fine for an 06 scion tc right? I've in So Cal if that helps. I'm good and the filter is the right one right =)? I know i should be changing the oil right now instead of asking question, but I'd prefer to be entirely sure before I do it. It IS a CAR that I'm stuck with for the next 2-3 years.
