so to clarify things....

you need 4 qts of oil
an oil filter
14mm and 17mm wrenches
drain plug
oil filter wrench
crush washer
jack and jackstand

are these all the necessary things required for an oil change?
I dont want to be doing the oil change in my driveway and then realize that im missing something.

Are there any special drain plug or crush washers we are supposed to use?

You need something to collect all the drained oil, but thats about it. Stock drain plug is fine, just put on a new crush washer before you put it back on to fill.

Or you could just do this..

Its not recomended to reuse, but mine has not leaked a drop. Usually the dealer will tape a crush washer to the box when you buy a filter..

if one switches to fumoto valve, there is no more need for crush washers. it makes it easier to do your own oil changes. saves you some bucks and you get to spend quality time with your tC. :D

reminds me of an old episode of Step By Step.... (who even remembers that show?)

where the girls change the oil and forget to put back in the drain plug before putting in the new oil.. and Dana was still under the car? .. like.. oops....

Fram also has something like the fumoto valve called SureDrain. Instead of a switch u just hook on this tube to the special drain plug and the oil starts draining.

Go to parts dept at any toyota/scion dealership and buy 30 of the crush washers for $5...problem solved!

What ever you guys do, do not buy fram oil filters. I had one on when I changed the oil on my civic and the filter's gasket some how got wedged inside... to make the long story short I had to get it towed to a shop to get them to remove it and fill up the oil again... The guys at the shop said that's what usually happens with those filters, and they said they are cheaply made too. That was one of the most expensive oil changes I had ever done.

I was told that fram filters are the best! Even better than mobil1. Any other reviews about fram?

fram doesn't make very good filters, but they are cheap. where did you hear they were the best? go look up some filter reviews and breakdowns. if you've ever looked at a cut out of oil filters you'll realize it's like tissue paper in there. i personally use WIX. look up any online oil filter test and you will see fram is not very good...personally i feel like using expensive oil with a cheap filter is just a waste. go buy some good filters ppl!

I would think a putty knife might work without scratching the surface. If it's stuck on there that well and it's not leaking, I'd just leave it.
