Default Drift Spec Impressions

Well, after driving for about an hour going about 65-70mph I had a really bad headache.. If anyone does alot of interstate driving I would recommend either leaving the stupid looking silencer in or not getting the full megan setup.

For the most part I like the way the exhaust sounds, but you kind of have to be in the right mood to like the sound. When you pass people they normally put up their windows because the exhaust aims towards them and is really loud on the outside.

It sounds realllllllly nice at idle - 2,000RPMs, a real clean/mean rumble. Between 2,000-3,000 RPM's there is a slight bit of rasp, not bad if you aren't hitting the gas very hard. 3,000RPM - Redline it's just loud.. My friend's hear me coming from blocks away.

Went to the track for the first time with the exhaust, it made my trap speed go up by a full MPH, and that's just in the 1/8th. Definately alot more power in the mid RPM's, I can't launch at 3k anymore without alot of wheel spin.. I had to drop my launch down by about 500rpm's. My ET didn't get any better because of a bunch of crappy 60' times, but the power is there judging by the trap speed.

Install was easy, exhaust looks pretty good from the outside.. Overall a good buy, it probably sounds wonderful with the stock header.

Welcome to the club.

the rasp you hear will decrease alot with time. the gaskets need to smooth over ect.

Oh boy mine was so loud the first week that I felt bad for myself, but after that it got better. In idle it's wonderful, the problem is after 2,000 rpm that it feels so deep and loud until you're at 3,000 and over. I can't complain in highway cuz if U put just the right amout of gas or cruise control, it won't be bad at all. With the silencer on the sound is just perfect, but you'll feel the car weaker. As of comparison with stock: stock = way more low end power ( 'till you hit 2,800) then with the drift spec you'll feel the big awesome kick. In the looks department, Megan got a fat 10. That thing looks sick and U can see the whole axle back section standing behind the car or from the left rear section of the car. Def worth the money
P.S. My engine light blinked 5 times everytime @ turned on the car for about 3 days stright, and went out after that. It's normal BTW.

Spend the $100 on a good resonator and the sound will go down quite a bit. I have never used the silencer since I installed the resonator.

mine sounds like a bee is inside my exhaust with the silencer in.

I cant tell if it got quiter and I just got used to it or what. all my friends say I just used to it. they can hear me blocks away wherever I am going.

kind of freaks you out when you show off for people and around the next corner is a cop. even though you did nothing wrong in front of him he still knows what you did.

Does anyone else think the silencer looks retarded?

looks and sounds retarded.

However if you like your hearing and don't mind the power loss all the time then its well worth keeping it in on the streets.

I have the K&N cold air intake and Dc headers with my setup. i am getting my resonator put in on friday, i was going with a 30', is that too much or maybe an 18...what size do you guys think i should put in? The guy thats doing it said if i go 18, i may not here much of a difference. I have noticed in the past few days that it doesn't seem quite as loud...i don't know if i am just getting used to the noise or it is infact "calming" down.

the silencer doesnt lose HP, just gets rid of the resonator tip...trust me, freind put a resonating tip(smae thing as the megan tip) on his truck, and it changes sound, not HP.

My old truck had resonating tips...sounded beautiful, but the tips didn't add the HP, so removing them doesn't drop HP

only way i trust this is a dyno that shows it....then i'm still doubtful

I was going w/ the exhaust, but in the end, the placemant of the exhaust was closer to the bumber than the HKS, so i went with that one, and let me see its only loud in the beginning of the RPM range, but dies down after maybe 3.5, 4

but i love the sound of it

I'm waving the BS flag on that one.
the silencer is a restriction, thats what makes it quiter (forces the exhaust gas to flow through the absorbers instead of strait through).
its a huge restriction and if you roll with the silencer in all the time you should buy the oem style or a differnt muffler that doesn't have a straight through design.

this is probably the most helpful thread/post on this exhaust. im deffanatly thinking about buying this now. i have a injen intake and alphawerks header. my question is if it does become raspy i know i have options to put on resonators, will that loose high end hp and will it help wit h the rasp a lot or just little bit?

good to know a thread finally helps since there is like 200 of these.

Its only raspy with a header. the resonator will lose some HP but not alot.

if you get the drift spec make sure to wax around the exit so the carbon build up can be washed off before it stains your bumper.

I'm thinkin about gettin this exhaust. I don't have and don't plan on having a header. So, if there is no header, is this exhaust loud? I just want a good performing, good sounding, not too loud exhaust.

it is not very loud with the cat. deep good tone to it IMO.

performance is not that noticable with the stock header however. the stock manifold is very restricting and the cat of coarse is probalby the largest restriction in the exhaust. so for me out it went.

not trying to start an argument, but thats ture...
the silencer that i ahve wit my drift spec doesnt in hibit the exhaust any...it slides into the muffler, and is nothing but pipe, therefore it provides no resistance....

Car sounds idfferent because it doesn't have a tip. exhuast tips make a big difference, expecially at idle till about 3-4k, when it comes to noise level(ask anyone with a v8 pickup)

i have to say, feeling wise, that i doubt a true hp difference, probably psychological, unless someone has a dyno proving it, i dooubt it, just cause of the charateristics

I would have to agree, I don't think the silencer really restricts airflow that much if at all. Here is a quick diagram I drew up
