And you don't have a header? I was hoping it wouldn't be too loud if you run the stock manifold.

Its not to loud with stock header. Its quite deep and has a nice rumble.

My old truck had resonating tips...sounded beautiful, but the tips didn't add the HP, so removing them doesn't drop HP

only way i trust this is a dyno that shows it....then i'm still doubtful
I'm waving the BS flag on that one.
the silencer is a restriction, thats what makes it quiter (forces the exhaust gas to flow through the absorbers instead of strait through).
its a huge restriction and if you roll with the silencer in all the time you should buy the oem style or a differnt muffler that doesn't have a straight through design.
not trying to start an argument, but thats ture...
the silencer that i ahve wit my drift spec doesnt in hibit the exhaust any...it slides into the muffler, and is nothing but pipe, therefore it provides no resistance....

Car sounds idfferent because it doesn't have a tip. exhuast tips make a big difference, expecially at idle till about 3-4k, when it comes to noise level(ask anyone with a v8 pickup)

i have to say, feeling wise, that i doubt a true hp difference, probably psychological, unless someone has a dyno proving it, i dooubt it, just cause of the charateristics
chararteristics aren't everything. on NA cars you may not notice the difference or loss in power but it is there. turbo cars have lost more than 30HP cause of a silencer.
there was a study modified mag did on scilencer and tested 3 of them. the least ristrictive one still made for a 37WHP loss. this was done on a rx-z so of course it was more noticable than on our cars.

even though you dont feel the loss it is still there.

I can't find this artical on the web. but.............

I am going to dyno my car this sunday and if I can get 2 or more runs in I will do one with and without the silencer.

if not then I will dig it up out of my mag. pile, scan it and post it up.

this article is pretty old and technology has changed alot since, so take that into consideration, that the numbers will not be the same.

yeah at 5280 feet above sea level I put down 143HP, and 141.9 torque. with the silencer it was 139HP and 132 torque. I cant get a good scan of the dyno's to show you or take good pics but I will keep tring.

remeber I'm a mile + above sea level with only intake and megan exhaust.

Sorry it took so long I kinda forgot about this thread.

but you can argu all you want I've seen the silencer decrease power by a significant amount.

werd....i believe it, especially wit turbos, they need as lil back pressure as possible, but also need the perfect amount of flow, i believe it with the NA engines, as well....im gonna do the same thing when i dyno wit the supercharger, silencer then no,

also for those of u who continuously say the noise goes down...yea it does slightly, but its also acute hearing loss from the pitch and tone and loudness of the exhaust...when i installed mine, for the first few weeks i would get annoying ear rings, i dunno if its jus my hearing is too sensitive or wat ...but nehow i like it always liked it from install...only gotta put in the silencer when traveling in the city areas...cop keep their windows down for exhausts.

they don't say crap in colorado unless your driving like a donkey.

as far as acute hearing loss I wouldn't know cause I'm pretty def from runing power tools siince I was a kid without hearing protection.

when I dyoned it was the first time I heard the car outside and I have to say it is the most amazing tone I have ever heard. no rasp just deep beatufull growl. I got alot of compliments and even got a gift card for the loudest tuner car of the day.

any one who says this exhuast sounds like crap just hasn't heard it after it broken in and warmed up.

I haven't put in the silencer yet and after seeing this, I don't think I ever will.

i have the s-pipe, dc header, and the drift spec...to i think that combo is nice...not extreme loud like when i first got.....deep and a little low. but still loud.

yes, more rasp, but fitment shouldn't be a problem as your exhaust isn't even directly connected to your header (it hits the spipe first). you'll likely throw a CEL as well.
