Took my car in to get a baseline reading today at school and these are the results. Only mods to car is no muffler and a cold air intake I made myself. I realize the numbers cannot be right but that's what it made. oh yea, the car has 125k miles.

Baseline is for turbo build I am starting soon. Save the hate mail I am doing this under the assumption I will be rebuilding soon thus I am not starting the build till I get my 'burb back on the road as the crank is getting polished and the motor is in a hot tank as we speak.

Realistically I would say 140-145. Most run on dynojet dynos and this one is a superflow. Either way good power curve and no one there believed it made more tq than hp. Most there prefer big displacement. Mine will be too, in effect, haha

have u ever heard it w/o? not as obnoxious as you would think with 2 cats a resonator sorry having problems uploading scanned dyno sheet numbers are 160.5 hp and 165.3 tq

 

I took my muffler in to the shop to take off the stock and ended up being too long so I had him lower it and start it as is and we all agreed it sounded fine without one. This including a 45 year old hick with a huge hog in his mouth saying 'damn boy what did you do to make it sound like that? I actually don't hate that and I hate all rice burners!'

 

this post makes little sense...first off, it is a published fact that the 05-06 tc makes 160 bhp and 163 lb-ft torque, and the 07 and up makes 161 bhp, and 162 lb-ft torque. it is right there on paper for the cars specifications.

secondly...there are no results in this thread, just another estimate, nothing but a thumbnail of a tc on the dyno. no sheet or anything?

 

sorry had to edit if you look at the performance parts round up most you see on there is like 154 with h/e/i

 

Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine's horsepower without the loss in power caused by the gearbox, alternator, differential, water pump, and other auxiliary components such as power steering pump, muffled exhaust system, etc. Brake refers to a device which was used to load an engine and hold it at a desired RPM. During testing, the output torque and rotational speed were measured to determine the brake horsepower. Horsepower was originally measured and calculated by use of the indicator (a James Watt invention of the late 18th century), and later by means of a De Prony brake connected to the engine's output shaft. More recently, an engine dynamometer is used instead of a De Prony brake. The output delivered to the driving wheels is less than that obtainable at the engine's crankshaft.

Ok so you tell me 160bhp stock minus parasitic loss of a standard 20% and you get 128. You telling me you think an intake I made and no muffler gave me 32 whp. If it was only that easy

us mechanics/builders know a thing or two about engines. Nice textbook definition on the history for those that do not know the origins of bhp, etc.

I think what the others were getting at is wondering where those numbers came from without seeing a true dyno sheet with the post at first.

 

I took my muffler off and it sound horrible! it sounded okay until like 2500 rpms then it just went straight to rasp but other people have different definitions of what sounds good.
