Default Proper ATF level?

I'm not so familiar with the auto tranny, so I was wondering were should the fluid level be exactly in relation to the tC's dipstick? I'm somewhat confused about it. After running the car, letting it get to operating temp, then checking the level with the engine running, should the level be below or at the hot mark?

I don't have an auto but I would check the owner's manual and it should tell you. My old Jeep I had to run it and put it in neutral but there were hot and cold marks on the stick.
