Default ecu

Hello forum it's been a while since I've been on! On my 2008 Tc, the dealership told me I needed to replace the ecu, I purchased a totaled 05 for parts, BOTH are manual. I happened to take out the ecu. Do you think this would work for my CEL? Any help appreciated

Bump for help. I have the other ECM out of my totaled Tc now. Scared to replace it until I get some advice. It's going in a 08 that's also 5 speed, just not sure if odometer is connected in some way or if it needs a specific kind of flashing?

Hate to tell you this, but I think you'll need an ECU from a newer model. They changed slightly for 07 and beyond I believe. I imagine the odometer would be fine with a new ECU, but I think you'll have to get the ecu flashed at a dealership to work with your key. I havent done this so I'm not positive about this information, but search this forum for the info you're looking for. I can't imagine this is the first time someone has had to do this.
