Default ECU Reset after installing a mod

How many of you reset your ECU after installing a power mod?

I know many of you still reset your ECU because of the CEL after installing headers.

I am just curious to see who are the real car people here

I have never reset my ECU after installing a mod (header, CAI, S-Pipe, etc). I have not had a CEL come on at any time and noticed no issues with the car running incorrectly. I have disconnected the battery for extended periods for other reasons and did not notice a performance difference after the ECU was "reset".

Well,

When i installed my MMW header the light went on for a while but after like a day it went off. It doesnt really matter if your light comes on.

this is off topic, but that is VERY untrue. if you throw a CEL, one of your sensors is reading something that is not normal.

reseting the ecu makes it easier for the ecu to adjust to new modifications that involve sensors

The only real thought i had after reading this topic was nearly every mod I have every made to both of my cars envolved disconecting the negative battery terminal prior to installation. (not that I ever did) But it kinda sheads light on to why. Intresting.

I reset the ECU once, and quite frankly, I felt much slower for about 3 weeks.

This was confirmed by a horrendus track performance, both E.T. and MPH wise.

I don't see myself resetting the ECU ever again. I have a OBDII scan tool if a CEL ever arises, and you should too. $50 at walmart.

I am still throwing a CEL from the first o2 sensor due to the Alphawerks header I installed. I tried the MMW CEL adaptor and still throwing a CEL. Last night I switch from the MMW to a spark plug style adaptor which everyone on here said was a sure fix. The car is running a lot better then the MMW, but I am still throwing a CEL. I tried reseting with pulling the negative teriminal, and I had my buddy who is a mechanic try to clear it with the obd 2 scanner, and it is still coming back in like 2 minutes after reseting it????

I need to know what others are doing to fix this? Never had this many issues wit a header!!!!

If it's coming back in 2 minutes, then it's most likely something other than the O2 receptor.. I'd pull the code and see what it is.

You may have a damaged sensor as well.... it's so hard to say.

the code is for the first 02 sensor, (I think it ended with 031) but most people have the same code when you swap to an aftermarket header. I was really, really careful with these sensors since I read about all the problems people are having with them. I also don't want to get a new sensor for $200 and it still have the same sort of problem.
