Yep, you don't want to mess with the EGR unless it's bad and if it's bad just replace it...... You can try and clean a EGR valve, but sometimes it's doesn't work, so you would end up replacing it.

The PCV valve you can get away with cleaning it, unless you have burnt deposite built up that won't come off the little valve that's in the PCV housing.

the oil catch can for the PCV is a good thing correct (as far as the 2AZ-FE is concerned)?

The car didn't come broke and yet you're still hell-bent on tearing it up! Leave the engineering to the smart guys and just drive happy.

Yep, the oil catch tank is a great thing for any motor, especially if you like to drive hard even every once and a while. The catch can will make your car idle great for years to come, but that's including general maintenance like new sparkplugs, oil, ect. when needed. The catch can will keep the oil out of the intake system, therefore keeping the idle and acceleration smooth.

If he did not do everything correctly he could have caused a vacuum leak. That will definitely make it idle poorly.
