Default Engine noise

Ok, so ive read around the forums one this but nobody here seems to have the same symptoms that i do. My engine has a weird knocking sound, but only when the engine is warmed up and either idling or moving below 10mph. the sound seems to be coming from the left of the engine bay, around the pulleys. it does not come in time with an increase in revs. I am using mobil 1 synthetic, and the only engine mods i have is a CAI. anyone have any ideas?

Is it a knock or a tick?

Search for "VSV". A CAI usually makes the VSV knock noticeable.

Is it the CAI knocking along the inner fender wall?

I've noticed that ticking noise by the crank also! Its to intermitant for me to pin point, but I think it's the timing chain or tensioner? Not sure yet. Still runs fine, but bothers me.

if it's by the pulleys, it isn't the CAI being loose...are you boosted now or still N/A?

Def not the cai, the sound is coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. i also dont suspect the vsv because of the same reason. I am also n/a. it also sounds kinda like a loud ticking. any ideas? i really dont want to take it to the dealership if i can avoid it, but this is beginning to worry me a bit.

Doing a search yields that it's either VVTi at work, or some non-critical problem that you can take to the stealership. Either way, take it in and wave your warranty around.

Don't worry, thanks to Magnuson-Moss, they can only say it isn't covered under the warranty if the sound is caused/directly related to the CAI.

Just to follow up, i took my car to the dealership yesterday and they said that it was either the belt tensioner, or the water pump. the mechanic said that it was most likely the belt tensioner, but he couldnt be sure because they were so close together. Sadly though my warranty is up, so doesnt look like i'll be getting this fixed any time soon
