Story basically goes like this.. I was driving to Scion VIP's event in Petersburg VA, when all of a sudden about 40 miles from the event.. it sounds like I had hit a patch of highway that was grooved.. but I noticed that it wasn't, so I pull over and pop the hood.. to my suprise.. I noticed that my Megan Racing Header has come apart.. the weld right above the pre-cat has come undone completely.. all the way around it. After a few seconds, my tC had transformed into a big block Chevy I will get a picture up in a few minutes.. or unless ScionBandit (Dave) can post his up on his camera.. very interesting problem.. more to follow.

 

I bet that was loud. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

It actually isn't that bad, other than the noise.. it was so loud, I had a migrane last night that made me puke it hurt so bad.. I need to get a sound clip, or you can listen to what some people had to say about it that saw it in person.. it was insane. I had so many heads turning.. they were all like.. WTF? Dude.. what is done to that thing.. thats when I just pointed and laughed.

 

I just ordered the MMW Header.. I am just going to replace it for now.. screw it.

 

so was it the bump that did it or was it the header cause i just ordered a set of megans for my xa and i dont wanna have em go down the drain in time

 

Honestly, because I dont believe in d!ckin over a company.. the truth be told that I didn't have the exhaust brackets on at the bottom of the header, which IMO I believe pulled down on the header, and between that and the exsessive heat from the header itself made the welds come un-done. I never had any issues with it, until now.. so I wouldn't say dont get them.. they are a great header, although some say they have had issues.

 

A lot of people when trying to make pretty welds do so by not running hot enough. Their welds are nto strong at all. Now, I am not a pro welder by any means, but that sounds like what happened there. Crappy welds. I am sure not having the bracket helped it along on breaking, but that just doesnt look like a good weld. Just my .02 though.

 

Oh I agree.. from looking at the welds when apart.. you can see how terrible the welding was.. I'll be suprised to see if any other Megan Header develop either leaks or break as mine did. I just wanted to share this with everyone.. I am not bashing Megan, just making people aware of what can happen with their header.. I've put well over 40K+ on this header.

 

The MMW Header is not supported by the factory brackets either, however you should not be having any problems with that one

 

Yeah, that is what I think too.. seems like a solid and reliable header.. and not to mention the HP/TQ gains, and the cost.. I'm excited..

 

You should of just got a new one from megan.. I'm 100% sure they would of replaced it for free without any hassle.

I remember a similar incident in my old integra, the exhaust broke completely after the cat when I hit a bump. The loudest thing I ever heard.

I can only imagine how loud it is where your header is broken.

 

Its insane.. VERY insane! Put it this way.. it was so loud that it gave me a headache.. then proceeded to make me sick because of my head.. trust me.. not fun!

 

.. and you are a 100% correct. I knew I could get it replaced under warranty.. but I thought about it.. why buy another header when I can get one free of charge? So they just emailed me back and they are going to send me another header out ASAP Thank you Megan Racing.. great company.

 

Did you go under any bridges to see how loud it echos?

 

Of course.. my girl was gettin all excited in that certain somewhere.. She said it sounded like a NASCAR.. which I have to agree. Under bridges and through tunnels.. you cannot hear anything else.. PERIOD!

haha! good story :D Well, i feel validated now. I never did trust those Megan Headers. (or ANY megan products for that matter. Who would buy a product from a company named MEGAN??) The header itself is Ugly and the welds look weak.
