Just went through inspection with the wife's '01 Corolla, no sniffer test. Whole process took 2 minutes! Love this state.

Now inspection on my old '95 Neon was not so quick, they put it on the rollers, hooked up the sniffer and away they went; still passed but not anywhere near as fast.

MD does do a quick underbody inspection with a mirror (I guess to find leaks or verify there is a cat), but like you said nothing under the hood.

after driving the car for about 75 miles - i have come to the realization that it is obnoxiously loud with just the header, stock s pipe, stock b pipe and greddy evo2 axle pipe - raspy sounding - not very tolerable so we are going to look at options to quiet this thing down a bit

i can't say that it is just the combination of the alphawerks header into the mix that has made the sound so high pitched, from listening to the car on the dyno any header that we would have left on the car would have had the same resulting sound
did you reset the computer between tests? you may actually gain power if you do the antifoulers and let it learn for 300-500 miles.

also for the rasp problem, replace the mid-pipe with some 2.5" with a perferated core resonator and that should kill the rasp completely.... (shoot for the longest one possible)

and if you guys make just a midpipe, you should sell it to the public

On that "notion" I would LOVE to see the stock set up with the CAT gutted but left in place just to see the dyno results!!!! I think it would be amazing to see what the power band and difference would be just for ____z and giggles. Would you guys even consider doing that for some beer?

I'm considering getting the Creative Compact cat-back with high flow cat and resonator next (right now, all I have is K&N's CAI) and then the alphawerks header...
What kind of gains will I see after all of this and how do you people think it will sound?

i was afraid of how loud the exhaust was going to get.. i know the "loud" part is very subjective... but i already have the TRD axle back.. and it is perfect.. deep.. but not too loud...

i was considering the MMW header/s-pipe ..... i really which it would have been tested here in this round.... just to get an opinion on the tonal change.. from his posts.. james sounds like he is of the same opinion of loud as i may be...

we should have one ready for testing in the next few weeks here.

But looking at the dyno graphs.. it's still lower than the MMW Race Header.
Still by trying to get 15Hp out of a header is hard.
and for alittle more you get alot more power and torque.

And oh yeah :

You guys have an s-pipe along with your header... and that's on a different dyno... apples/oranges

Not that I'm saying your product isn't good, but this is an independent dyno test done by GSC and your numbers really don't apply to this test.

matty.. im going to agree with you on that we should not compare the reading ..but only because it is a different dyno.. the fact that you get an S-pipe with it should be considered apples to apples.. the tests should be what you get for your money.. if the alphaworks does not come with an s-pipe.. then that is the way it should be tested.. if the MMW comes with.. then that is how it should be tested.. you should not handicap MMW because the other manufactures do not include one.. it's like saying you should not compare say the CAI's becuase they come with different filters.. you should test it with exactly what you get.. just my 2 cents..

GSC,
Can you guys run it on the dyno again now that the car is used to the Alphewerks header? I am curious how the ECU has adapted.

we're not measuring hp per dollar here. we're measuring all out power. so that arguments flawed.

im not talking about Hp per dollar... im talking about testing the equipment that you get... lets look at it as a kit... each header is a kit.. you get the header, any bolts and nuts you may need, any seals you may need.. and any other part the kit comes with... that is how it should be tested... apples to apples.. kit against kit.. the way they were designed and sold....

lets say you throw in an s-pipe and tested the alphaworks header... you may realize a gain in HP.. but that is not what your getting when you order the alphaworks.. if Alphaworks includes an S-pipe.. i would expect that the test would be run with the s-pipe.. regarless of whether any of the other header kits included one or not.. if the S-pipe make a good difference in HP.. then it would be safe to say that the kits that do not include one have a flaw in their design..

I tend to disagree with that.

You can break down the engine into definable sections that can be upgraded.

I'm more interested in how each part (not each package) compare.

For arguments sake (numbers made up for the example):

Alphawerks header = +10hp
Alphawerks header + S Pipe = + 20hp

compared to..

MMW + S-Pipe = +15hp

The way you're argueing, you'd say the MMW is better.

Which if you compare apples to apples they are not.

they aren't kits.... my point is it says HEADER test results. not header KIT test results.

it's a biased look at a minimum if you put the MMW numbers against them.
