Default intake/header/exhaust combo with most power, LEAST noise?

Hey guys. I'm getting ready to join the scion community right after I sell my '97 Grand Prix GTP - man I'm gonna misss that car...

Anyway, I'm wondering about the added noise the header, s-pipe, exhaust, and cold ait intake will create. On my grand prix, I had the cold air intake, down pipe, and a dynomax cat-back exhaust, and that really did add to the overall noise level. It wasn't a bad noise coming from a supercharged v6, but it was noticeably louder.

So if I add the parts, just how loud does it get, and is there any way to keep it from sounding like a whiny high rev'ing "ricer"?

First and foremost, I'm trying to add the power but avoid the angry bee sound so many of the chopped up Hondas make. I REALLY want to avoid the giant chrome muffler, so I'm wondering if a custom exhaust with a dynmoax muffler will be better for the noise.

Any ideas, opinions, or hey better yet - audio of a mod'd tC?

If you don't want that raspy/ricey sound, make sure that the header/exhaust combination you get produces the sound you want. There have been many cases when people would get one or the other and sound fine, and then sound like the typical fart can with both.

Yeah, that's what I'm looking for... I wish there was a way to find the right combo without having to play frankenstein with all the parts til you get it right. I've been very impressed with the Dynomax super turbo mufflers, but then again, it's coming off a V6 supercharged engine.

I wonder if adding a resonator and a hi-flow muffler might really help the sound....

I would search for some sound clips and see if you find one you like. Just remember that these things can sound very different when combined with other mods.

If I would be doing this, I would just get the intake/header first. Pick out the two you like the most, and then as more people get s-pipes/cat-backs, you can learn more about the sounds all these combinations produce.

Also, be careful with these because some things might pose problems with your warranty.

if you want to go with a exhaust with a low exhaust note. i would recommed going with a magna flow. if you are planning on doing a custom setup. make sure that you install a resonator with the aftermarket muffler. any type of exhaust / header / intake will make your car louder. some setups may sound different than others. but i think overall magnaflow has low exhaust tone compared to others.
