Lagging need help!
TRD intake HELP ASAP!!!
Hello everyone!
I just bought a TRD CAI but converted it to short ram only using one pipe not all 3. anyways after installing i had to buy an adapter for the MAFS so i got it today but had it rigged pior. while it was rigged the CEL came on. So after the adapter i disconnected the NEG cable from the battery and waited maybe a minute then reconnected rested the windows and trunk. THE CEL went away :D however.... i took it for a drive up my hill and it lagged in shifting not just first gear either.
My tc is a 2008 the intake is from a 2006 tC. btw my tC is a manual
thank you in advance and sorry for the long post

Did you let the car idle for a few mins after reconnecting the neg terminal? The ecu has to relearn the idle condition. That may be the source of the lag. Did you read the code that caused the cel?
What I do is unhook the negative for about ten minutes then reconnect. Start it up let it idle for about 10-15 minutes then turn it off. After that take it for a short drive, about 20 minutes of mixed city and highway. Hope this helps.

Ok kool ill try this out now ill unhook it then reconnect then drive
I'll post back later for the update. Did I mention I had to reposition the MAFS? The pipe that leads from the throttle body isn't long enough to reach. So I moved the MAFS to accommodate this. Would this have any affect on the rough idle and lag?

As long as you aren't boosted, shouldn't mess up too much. What really messes with the MAF readings is pipe size. As long as the MAF isn't too close to the throttle body or too close to the filter (like right after it), I think you'll be okay.
Just curious, how did you re-position the MAF?

here is where the MAFS was prior to intake:
and here is where it is now:
all i did really was move it under a few wires and hoses that was in the way and placed it on the TRD SRI. but now that i have gotten this sort of under control my CEL came back on after i left the appointment i had. came home and unscrewed the MAFS until the engine sounded as if it was normal. i went inside the car looked at RPM's and it was idling between 900-1000 rpms. in the top picture my idle was about 700-800 rpms. I am still new with scion specs so forgive my stupidity plus i am a bit OCD about the tc...
***EDIT***
so in my first picture with stock housing and the spectre filter my OBD II had a green emissions light.
in the second picture its a yellow light but no CEL as of yet. If it does come back on i'm just going to go back to the original setup.Unless someone has an idea is to why this is happening, i have checked every hose and clamp possible and i am curious about the sensor like thin that is sitting next to my cone filter... What is that? and i have the one from an 06 tc as well if i switched them out would it make a difference?

The ECU may not like the placement of the MAF since it's right after the bend. The air flow around the bend likely gives it different readings than if it was straight on like you had it before. I would switch it back to the normal location right after the filter.
so heres an update i reconnected everything and then let it run then i shut it off. Drove it to work no issues. On my way home i plugged in my OBD2 reader and had a green emissions light all the way home. i parked and turned off engine then tried the OBD2 again just to be sure light is still green and no CEL knock on wood. If all else fails ill just go back to my original setup.
if you look in the first picture attached to my stock intake there is a hollow black box.... what is it and what does it do?
