Lost the thread ref 2007 transmission problems
I was trying to learn why the Scion tC is so difficult to shift, mainly from 2nd to 3rd. We are looking at a used 2007 but I had a terrible time trying to get it into 3rd gear....we had a 2003 Corolla that was totaled, but the difference in shifting that and the Scion is massive.
There also is a problem with the engine light staying on constantly....but it isn't low on oil, and we've checked the gas cap, etc....
Oh, and I AM the 'grandmother' trying this car out....so it has nothing to do with that....

The tC shouldn't be difficult to shift. If it is, there may be a problem with the transmission. You can try by replacing the gear oil to see if that helps. Personal recommendation would be to you Redline MT90. If you still have problems, you may need to replace the transmission as internal parts may be worn, and it would be cheaper to get a lower mileage used transmission than to have the existing one rebuilt.
Regarding the engine light, you will need to have the code read to figure out the problem. Autozone usually will do it for free.

I have a 2007 with 130K miles and do not have transmission problems. Also, I race my tc with almost double the standard output as well as launch it hard on slicks. I would recommend taking the vehicle to a mechanic for a prepurchase inspection. It sounds like there are too many issues to diagnose without being there. The tc is a great car for the money but I would keep looking if I were you!
