Default new intake air filter causing problems

I just installed a new intake filter on my tC. after resetting the system and driving for about 20-30 miles:
- "Check engine" light comes on
- driver side passenger window switch stops working
- driver side driver window loses its automatic capability
- passenger side window loses its automatic capability

please help...

For the windows and sunroof, read the manual for how to reset them. I seriously will not give that answer again. Do a search or open your car manual. This happened because the battery power was cut.

The CEL coming on means that something is wrong. Did you just oil the filter? Do you use an oil filter? That can damage the MAF sensor. Is the MAF sensor on securely? Worst case, go to your local autozone and have the code read for free and then post back on here what the code is reading.

What he said about the oil type filter ie K&N. I bought a Injen cai and it came with a K&N Filter after putting some miles on my car I started having problems that resembled bad spark plugs then it got worse and I thought I had bad gas. So one day I decided to say what the hell and got some maf sensor cleaner and tried it after I didn't have any more problems so I got rid of the filter and got a AEM Dryflow.

AEM dryflow is definitely the way to go! I don't even know why they make the oil filters...it doesn't make sense.

(although i am one to talk, I run a K&N drop-in filter in my stock air box)

Yea but if you didn't cut it out the stock airbox has the charcoal type filter after the air filter that will catch the oil before it gets to the sensor, cai don't.

how so the air meter is right after the airbox, and the charcoal filter is after that?

The charcoal filter he's talking about is directly above the stock air filter. So the air goes to the filter first and then the charcoal part. They're both in that black box you see in the upper right.

I'm kind of confused by the post though... was the OEM filter just replaced and you got a CEL? Or do you have a CAI and replaced that filter?

Default got the code

so i went to auto zone and got the code read...

P0171
fuel trim bank one condition
causes:
1. if bank one and two codes set together suspect fuel pressure or MAF sensor
2. oxygen sensor defective
3. ignition misfire
4. fuel injector problem

now the guy at auto zone couldnt explain anything so i went to pep boys. they said that i should check my spark plugs then fuel injectors. But i doubt its that...i think i just need to clean the MAF sensor and itll be set...

Clean your MAF and disconnect your battery for 10 minutes, then reconnect let idle for 10 minutes and should be good.

after you idle it for 10 minutes, take it easy for the first couple of miles.

"Clean your MAF and disconnect your battery for 10 minutes, then reconnect let idle for 10 minutes and should be good."

thats exactly what i did (with MAF sensor cleaner), i even drove easy on it the first 10 miles....CEL came back on.

heres the code again:
P0171
fuel trim bank one condition
causes:
1. if bank one and two codes set together suspect fuel pressure or MAF sensor
2. oxygen sensor defective
3. ignition misfire
4. fuel injector problem

what else can it be?

Check the o-ring on the maf and make sure it hasn't been cut or pinched. Make sure all the vacuum lines were connected back.

I had the same problem with my TC - stuttering, CE light coming on, bad performace etc... I ended up removing the air intake and bought a K&N drop in. I've heard many rumors about "upgraded MAF sensors" and whatnot, that you can get from toyota. But i've not done the research.

Question: Does anyone know why the K&N drop in would be having no effect? On other cars you can hear a difference in the air flow...not in mine. Is this a result of the charcoal filter still being present in the stock air filter box? Thanks for any help

Stock airbox. The K&N doesn't really help by just putting in a drop in filter you will not notice a diffrence on a dyno. The K&N filter could actually hurt you b/c the oil can get on the MAF and start making the car have a misfire.

that is b/c cotton and foam filters still flow better. AEM dry-flow is a bit closer to paper type but not exactly. It should have better flow than standard paper filters. For the tC though, we dont have have high lift or a monster V8 under the hood so there should be enough flow.
