Default ODB Code P0302 - 2nd Cylinder MISFIRE... Spark Plug? How....

How can I tell WHICH PLUG is the 2nd cylinder to change?

The P0302 reading for the ODB could be 1 of a couple things but I'm trying spark plug first since its the quickest and cheapest route.

Does it go in order of how you look down the hood? (1, 2, 3, 4) Then the 2nd would be cylinder two? (The other way around, maybe)

I am getting my check engine light and my car is running HORRIBLY... sometimes just shuts down and turns off during stop lights... it vibrates my car in idle and sounds like it's running very WEAK...

Honestly, If one spark plug is bad, just change them all out. I dont know how to tell which is 1, 2, 3, or 4... So change em all and your set!

Nobody knows how to tell?

The thing is, I need this fixed QUICK and for the best $ possible... THERE IS ONLY A CHANCE it's the spark plug.. It's a likely one, but still a chance.

If all 4 plugs doesn't fix it, then I need to spend more $ to find out... then I'm talking someone taking a look at it and charging to look, then to fix.

I just want to see if the plug is bad, but the P0302 means its only cylinder two... I only bought one plug.

ANYBODY?

Cool, thats what I was looking for... and yeah I will eventually but I want to make sure my problem is JUST the plug... it may not (crosses fingers) be...

so, if im looking in:
o - o - o - o

it's this one for cylinder 2:

o - O - o - o

Thats what i thought but seemed too obvious

A couple things? Actually the list is long and distinguished:

I would strongly suggest you take your car to the dealer, especially if you're still under warranty.

Have you modified your car? How many miles on it?

ok, its not my spark plug in cylinder two....

s**t.... now what? Anybody have this problem before, it's an 06 and ive loved it up until this point. ive only had it for a month! (im 2nd owner.... 48k miles now)

it seems strange that i may have to take it to a dealer, spend $130 to get diagnostics, then pay $300 bucks or more if its something with my coil, or other wires deep inside there...

shiiiiiiiiiiii, im mad.

ANYONE?

Default misfire

If your stock it could be a coil pack. When you come to a stop does it idle really rough and does it drive like a slug when you step on the gas. If so it might be a coil pack.

Best way to test that is to start it up and unplug one coil pack...if the idle gets worse its not that pack....put it back on and pull another coil pack. Check all 4 coil packs....if there is 1 coil pack you pull off and the idle remains the same....then that coil pack is defective. I know this because I had 4 Nissan Maximas in my life and they all had coil pack issues. Since your getting a misfire on cylinder 2.. i'd start with that coil pack. Good luck man. PM is ya need any other advice.

I agree. Only thing that can cause misfire in one particular cylinder is a bad coil pack (rarely the case or would die completely) or the injector (much more common). Swap the injector around say injector 2 and 3 around and see if the misfire follows the injector. If so, that is your problem.

badcooliebwoy: got it right too... start the car... unplug the coil pack one by one... check if the idle changes or not... my spec v had this problem too... damn nissan.

also, you might want to check the space on the spark plug... check if they are spaced out evenly... its hard to describe of what i mean but, you should have that spark plug space checker thingy... i forgot what its called... also, check the cylinder itself... shine a light in there and try to see as much as you can if you can see anything... or if you want... stick a magnet in there... like a telescoping magnet and see if you can fish out anything thats in your cylinder. also, check the injector wiring itself if the wires came off or is toasted.

You speak of the spark plug gap. you need a Plug gapper for that. always get your plugs gapped correctly...
