i just reached around 4500 so im changing my oil. is there any recommended filter that i can pick up at a local store. also what size is the filter. and i was thinking about running full synthetic in it. can anyone recommend a good full synthetic oil that can be bought in a local walmart/pepboys/avanced auto parts/autozone thanks!

 

Buy a OEM toyota filter from the dealer, mobile 1 is good

 

I personally went with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic oil and a Mobil 1 Oil Filter (extended performance).

All comes down to personal prefrence. Some ppl will do Royal Purple all the way, some Mobil 1 blah blah. I will be switching to Royal Purple I THINK when my next oil change is due.

 

Oil filters:
mobile 1 extended performance, k&n, royal purple (made by same manufacturer), Amsoil, pureone. In order

Synthetic Oil:
Pennzoil Platinum (cheapest best protection money can buy)
there's a $15 rebate if u buy 5 qts, in other words $1 qts. Look at the Pennzoil website to print coupon.

Mobile 1 oil shears a bit , no likey.

read-on my friend, look at the UOA for gasoline passenger cars.

 

I use only royal purple, for both oil and gear oil, makes a big difference with shifting, also works if you have an lsd.

 

automatic keep this in mind if it makes a difference.

and do i use 5w30 or 10w30? im in newjersey and its almost fall. not sure if that makes a difference thought u were supposed to run thicker and thinner at different times.

 

If your motor isn't heavily modified, you can run the Toyota synthetic blend with a Toyota filter for the life of the vehicle with no side effects. If you don't use that, then I would suggest any of the above oils because they are all greater than OEM. Unless you go turbo or S/C or N20, there isn't any reason to worry. Toyotas from the early 90's that only ever ran on conventional oil turn 300k or more on stock motors and tranny's. Great motors live long lives.

i just wanna use full synthetic my gpop was like ahhh theres no difference! and now he switched to mobile1 and he feels the difference! lol its alot smoother and quieter

Toyota Oil filters are the best! There is a thread that shows a comparison of the filters out there.

Oil geez um it dont really matter as long as you change it when your supposed too. I always run synthetic cause i run my car hard. I have used mobil1, castrol synthetic, and royal purple. I ddint like royal purple. The engine idled louder and something just seemed off. I went back to mobil1 and everythign was fine. I have castrol in the car now cause they didnt have mobil1 in my wieght but it runs the same. I wanna run pennzoil platinum though cause i have heard alot of good things. I juts gotta find a place that carries it in my wieght sincee i live in key west its a lil tougher.

 

+1 on OEM oil filters. The parts department here gave me a deal on a 10 pack. TRD sparks does the same.

Just change your oil regularly and pay attention to it. That's way more important than nitpicking over which brand.

As far as weight use what your oil cap says! Its fine to use that type all year.

 

Royal Purple & OEM filter. bought the 10pack from TRDSparks for me and my GF (she drives an 09 Camry). ive been running it for a good year or so and the car feels good. better than when i had Mobil1 oil.
